Locusts...as a staple?

My Jamie has become a really stubborn eater and i fear with brumation season coming soon he wont be fat enough to cope. I loves locusts and gobbles them up like candy only thin i can get him to eat alot of. Can i use them as a staple though? thinking about trying to breed them.

i don't know about how healthy they are but they are illegal to breed in the United States but idk if you are somewhere else
