Well I've had my baby beardie Lily for about 3 weeks and I figured I would update. Pictures will be coming tomorrow.
We finally were able to get her and Gex (my ex boyfriend's beardie) apart into their own enclosures. Her stress marks are completely gone and she is so excited to see me when I go over to take care of her! (my ex just broke up with me tuesday...but I can't have pets so she has to stay at his house unfortunately. He takes care of her when I can't get up there though...). I went up there today for the first time since Saturday and she was all excited scrambling on her stick and wanting me to get her out. I enjoyed holding her and missed her like crazy. I've never been this attached to an animal before!
She eats about 10-12 crickets each feeding. I barely get her to eat her greens however. But the other day she ate some shreds of butternut squash I had sitting on my wrist which made me happy. I've made a concoction of a finely chopped up salad for them with escole or whatever it is, butternut squash, a little bit of bell pepper, 1 baby carrot finely chopped, and this other green I had bought. Probably won't be chopped up like that again since they won't eat it. Hopefully I can get her to eat some though. It's offered all day throughout the day, changed 2x if I can help it.
She loves her bath time, drinks up a good bit of water and then wants right out. If I pet her back she usually stays in one spot for a little bit, especially if I'm just holding her. I try to give her a bath 2-3x a week. She loves her basking spot and usually is up there, which leads me to believe her tank may not be hot enough overall, just that spot but it is pretty hot in there when I stick my hand in there to clean her poo out. I know I've almost burnt my hand just because it was under the lamp several times!
I'm going to check her size tomorrow just because I enjoy seeing how big she is getting. (I believe her to be about 5-8 weeks based on her size. I got her from a reptile show from a friend of a friend who is a breeder. Don't know her actual age.)
I want to let her run around outside the cage because it seems like she wants to, but my ex has a cat and a dog, and the cats already made an attempt to get Gex when Gex decided to jump from my ex's hand. I'm thinking this summer I may build a wooden enclosure for them with wood with my dad, he has a bunch of workshop tools. It would definitely be nice.
I believe that can be all for the update.
Who knew how adorable and amazing bearded dragons could be??
I really wish I could have pets here. I would have her run around here with no problem, could climb on my daughters blocks lol.
Hoping to be out of here in November when my lease is up, and can get into a place that lets pets, or at least lizards. (I mean, what can she do to harm the place like a cat or a dog? The only issue would be the heat lamp melting something lol).
