Hi there,
I am transferring my beardie from his 20 gallon tank to a 40 gallon tank. I have what came with my 20 gallon tank, a 12" hood that rests on the top of the screen with a 10.0 reptisun bulb in it that i keep usually either on the cool side or closer to the middle. And I have a mini "combo" deep dome lamp with 100 watt basking heat bulb on one side of the combo dome and a red heat bulb on the other. I do not use the red bulb because I've read :study: it is not good for them and my beardie really doesn't like any lights on at all at night anyway. Should I change the lighting fixtures now that he is in a bigger tank? Can i put another 10.0 reptisun bulb in the mini dome with the basking bulb? is that ok? and still use the 12" hood with the reptisun bulb for the other side? I do eventually want to get the long tube reptisun bulb and attach it to the inside length of the tank as suggested, but till i can save my pennies for that, Im hoping i can do ok with what I have. I also have 3 other single Dome fixtures that I am not using, one is very wide and the other two are just regular single dome fixtures. If anyone can help and has suggestions of what i should use is best, it would be greatly appreciated! I love my beardie so much i want him to be the most comfortable and healthy as he can be! :love5:
Thank you!

You can get the UVB light fixture at Wal-Mart. I attached mine to the side of the tank with Velcro.

Hello,

Are you using a long Reptisun 10 tube now, or a shorter one? If you are using a 12 inch Reptisun 10 tube bulb you can place that on top of the screen but if you can get it mounted underneath of the screen that would be even better. Be sure it is mounted directly overhead so that it doesn't glare into the eyes.
It needs to be 6-8 inches from her alongside of the basking light.
Really all you need is the tube UVB along with the basking light at one end of the tank & the other end doesn't have to have a light if the tank is bright enough. Or you could just put a low wattage basking light in the dome.
We don't recommend the "min" or compact/coil type of UVB lights, they normally don't have very good UVB emissions & most times hurt the eyes, too.

Hi there, I posted a Picture of everything I have. I'm just not sure which ones to use that are best. I have 2 of the reptiun 10.0 UVB bulbs (box shown in pic) and 2 ZooMed 100w Repti Basking Spot bulbs as well. As of right now I am using the combo mini dome and the hooded light fixture same as i used when he was in a 20 gallon tank. but I'm wondering if i need more lighting because i moved him into a new 40 gallon. i have those 3 extra dome fixtures that i am not using at the moment and wondering if i should add or change anything??? thank you for your time, any suggestions will help.

Can I put a ReptiSun 10.0 bulb in the mini combo dome fixture with a basking bulb next to it like it shows in the picture on the box. It says on the box that it is ok, but I'm unsure. and then can i also use another reptiSun 10.0 bulb in the 12 inch hooded fixture and place that on the screen on other side of the tank?

The ReptiSun you have looks like a coil style. I suggest replacing that with a tube style so it gives off a wide, consistent field of UVB. It can be mounted as suggested in previous posts. I'd use the largest dome fixture for the basking bulb to provide a nice wide beam of bright warm light. I would use one of the other fixtures for a ceramic heat emitter that you can turn on at night seasonally if the tank gets below 65 at night. I'd keep the double dome as a spare for now. If you can get hold of an adjustable lamp stand or two, they are helpful for moving the lights easily to get proper temperatures. Here is how I have mine set up. UVB is across the top (18'' up). Basking light (150w basking bulb) is on the left (19'' up). CHE is on the right (25'' up).

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
