...as well as maintaining the temps at night time (when the lights go off)? I would think that open screen top would lose too much heat?

My open screen top is fine, keeps heat in -- as long as its not mesh walls as well as top I think its okay.

Overall looks fantastic!! But the thermometer question is a good one. i.e. do you have a thermometer? what type is it? where are you measuring your temps?

What size tank is that?

if u look at the top right corner of the tank, you can see a wire, that's the thermometer
the tank is a 40 gallon breeder

The only thing I would do if I were you would be to cover three sides of the cage with either paper or some kind of aquarium background.. I think my girl got a little freaked out when she saw out all of the sides. Especially because there was a mirror behind the tank.. Just a thought...
