Hello everyone. I recently purchased my first bearded dragon (I named him Toothless) from a local pet store in my town. He wasnt kept in the best conditions, they weren't HORRIBLE either but certainly not good. I brought him home and I've had him for two days now. The first day he did almost nothing, didn't eat, move, or anything. He's also fairly scrawny, I can feel his ribs (idk if thats normal or not).I gave him a warm bath in case he might have had an impaction. The next day (today), he seems a little more active. He ate about 6 or 7 crickets but that was it. I tried feeding him superworms but he acted like he didnt like the taste and didnt eat them. He doesnt seem to like veggies either, i made a salad of collard and mustard greens and thin carrot sticks, he didnt touch it. I gave him another bath today and he passed a bowel while in the tub (whew). He still acts very lazy though and like I said he hardly ate anything today. His terrarium has a uvb bulb and basking lamp. Temps are: cool end, 80 degrees F., and basking end, 98 degrees F.. He has a hide, water bowel, and substrate is that green repti carpet type stuff. I've misted his cage both days as well, not very much but a little. Any ideas why he wont eat and why he's lazy? should I worry? Please help. Thank you for reading.

Also, I put a video on youtube of him, it will show you his terrarium and some of his "lazyness" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ySgNuAXksw

this could be due to re location stress give him some time to get used to his new accomodations and see what happens.

I saw that he opened his mouth at you when you went to pick him up and when you set him down.. that means they want to bite. :( Kudos to you for being so patient and gentle with him.. keep that up and he will learn to trust you and not open his mouth at you anymore.

May I suggest that you pick him up differently? Picking them up from above is what predators do in the wild and they instinctively get scared.
Try picking him up from the front by sliding your fingers under his head and toward his belly so that he rests comfortably in your palm.

I wouldn't mist the cage AND have a water dish.. that can raise the humidity to an unsafe level and may cause him to have a respiratory infection.

He probably is going through relocation stress.. all dragons do when they get a new home. He will come around. :) oh and by the way, he's ADORABLE.

Thanks a lot, he is a cutie isnt he :) lol. I appreciate the input from both of you thank you for answering my post so quickly. I'll certainly start sliding my hand in front of him from now on, I didn't really think about the predators picking them up from the top thing, that makes sense. Thanks again for the tips, I'll post an update on here in a week or so.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
