Latching top

I don't have a Beardie yet but soon I will start assembling stuff with the plan of getting a Beardie next year. My first concern is the enclosure. I have a very curious cat who will find the Beardie very interesting. I have read that mesh tops are best but I am concerned about the cat getting the top open. Is there an enclosure that you all recommend that has a top that latches? The ones I have seen on line don't specify whether the top latches or not.

If you have a cat in the house , DON"T BUY a TOP OPENING mesh topped glass tank .

Get a flatpack timber tank with sliding glass front doors - THESE MUCH MORE SECURE AGAINST CATS , BUT make sure it sliding glass doors ARE LOCKABLE.

Make sure the cat and the dragon NEVER EVER SEE EACH OTHER , and be obsessive about making sure everyone in the household is religious about keeping the door to the room where the dragon's tank will be housed is closed immediately when someone goes in there making sure the cat NEVER HAS ACCESS to that room.

The cat and dragon WILL NEVER BE FRIENDS, and it's only a matter of time before the cat attacks the dragon if common sense restrictions are not imposed on the cat.

Thanks for the reply. This gives me ideas as to what to look for but unfortunately since I live in the US it might be prohibitively expensive to have one shipped to here.

I'm sure if you look on Google or Ebay , you'll find lots of places based in the USA who sell similar flatpack vivs made of laminate & MDF or plywood (the plywood ones will be a bit more expensive , paying for quality of timber and build quality).

They are a little harder to find in the US unfortunately. Are you able to build one yourself? I agree that a latching sliding front door or a latching drop down front door is the most secure way to go. There are some places that will custom build these but the shipping can get pretty expensive.

I am looking into enclosures with sliding front doors. I found a place that makes ones with locking front doors and built in lights. They are a bit high but seem well built and by not having to buy light fixtures separate it might make up the difference. While I am anxious to get my new friend I'm not in a hurry. I am willing to take the time to find what is best and save up for what I can.
