I just recently finished this custom stacked viv for two of my Beardies. At first I thought I would do sliders, but really the "cabinet door" look fits better with the style of my home. The cabinet is made with oak plywood shell, melamine for the bottom of the enclosure areas, and the face frame is made with solid oak. Normally when building a cabinet like this I use dados (grooves cut in the wood) and tenon joints, but I was in a hurry to get this done so my Beardies would have a nicer enclosure. I used a Kreg pocket hole jig for the entire assembly. It worked great and really turned out nice. For the glass in the doors, I built the frame and routed a 1/4" x 1/4" groove around the inside on the back, I inserted the glass and there are numerous ways to hold the glass or plexi in. You could use old fashioned glazing points, silicone it in place or even tack small strips of wood in place behind the glass to sandwich it.
I do like the small hinged doors, they work very well.
Overall size: 2' x 4' x 6' high
Enclosure spaces: 2' x 4' x 20" high
Stained in "Red Oak" (two coats)
Sealed with Poly (two coats)
Lighting in each enclosure:
Reptisun 10.0 36" tubes
75 watt basking
(Switches mounted in the storage area in the bottom)
Sorry for the poor picture quality, taken with my cell phone and the lighting is really bad.
