Thanks Vicky - I will make sure to tell her that tomoro! And she will understand - she is always asking me about you guys on here.... well not so much you guys as your beardies lol!
The silkworms arrived Hopefully these will do him good! There were about 25 in the tub.... he had 3 today... im thinking a limit of 3 silkworms a day - that way they should last about a week?? Then again, now that I know he is def going to eat them, I can stock up a little!
I know! I was shocked when the postman arrived with them today - it said to expect delivery 4-5days after payment recieved and with all the holidays I thought they would take even longer!! So im def pleased!
Kazi had a bit of a rough day today - I really hope its just the effects of having a gravid, digging female living upstairs. Hes gone a full week without any real issues which is the longest so far - I really thought we were getting past it all!
He was pretty crazy all afternoon. I gave him a bath about 6.30pm - he seemed a little bloated and twitchy today so I thought he probably needed a poop... which he did. I put him back in his viv and went to sort out Phoebe. Anyway, when I looked back down at him he looked miserable - kind of depressed and his beard and tail were very black. I gave him some soy yoghurt - he was so eager to get it he practically ate the spoon too!!! By about 7.30 he still hadnt settled so I took him out for a little cuddle.... this just seemed to aggravate him more and he bobbed pretty continuously at me. I let him down on the floor and he ran from the carpeted area to the tiles so fast that he actually skidded across the tiles and began his mad bobbing again. He went back into his viv and kept up this bobbing for most of the evening - even when I got him out for a bed time cuddle - this whole time his beard and tail remained black.
Eventually, at bed time, he calmed down - his beard and tail returned to normal and he went to sleep. About an hour or so later I went to check on him and he was awake - his beard and tail were black again. I lifted him out and went through the usual routine except for the bath as he seemed very sleepy and I do worry he will aspirate some water. I rubbed his tummy and he seems to be uncomfortable on his left hand side - that is the side that he seems to twitch most on when I stroke it. He is a little bloated again. I couldnt get him to settle down and had to just put him back in and hope that he gets comfy....
I just wish we could figure out whats causing this discomfort for him but I really dont know what to do... I hope he calms down and gets comfy soon and gets a good nights sleep - I really do love the little guy and hate the fact that I cant just make him feel better!!
Hang in there Christina! Maybe the female had him un-nerved a little, maybe a little too much excitement for him today. He's had a pretty good week though, and thats good. It's still going to take a while yet before he's back to 100%. Your doing what you can for now, it's not going to be a quick fix. Keep up with your routine when he's uncomfortable, today may have been the exception. Hopefully he'll get himself into a comfy position and be able to get a good nights sleep. What day is the vet re-testing? Let us know how it goes.
Hes going in for the retesting and second dose of panacur on saturday morning - I have to call the vet to confirm that tho. Hes pretty stressed out today - mainly grumpy with Phoebe I think - I wish I had someplace else to put her for a week but there is absolutely no room for her anywhere else in the house He is a little bloated as well - I do think that air bubble is bothering him this week
I should have mentioned, when he pooped last night, I think there was tapeworm shed in it. Hes eating tho - he had 2 locusts and 3 silkworms which im pleased with but he is a little dehydrated today - his tongue isnt as pink as I would like it to be.... but hes still active and alert - if he would get rid of that black beard for more than 10 mins at a time I would be a lot happier!
Ok, so, Kazi was very angry most of the day - black beard, black tail, crazy bobbing! He seemed only to calm down when Phoebe was quiet for long periods (this does not happen often)!! I know it sounds terrible but I actually thought about putting Phoebe into boarding until she has this lot... I am a bad mummy to her Anyway, we had bath time in a different room tonight - away from Phoebe and within seconds of getting into the bath he was looking like his normal self and totally enjoying his bath time. He just seemed to totally relax once it was quiet and there wasnt the sound of incessant digging!
We then decided a little experiment was in order.... Phoebe is absolutely wrecked from all the digging so, we put her to bed early to give Kazi about an hour of relaxation time. He never showed a hint of a black beard for the rest of the evening, sat proudly on his rock looking totally calm with a look of 'I'm the king of the castle'! Hes been in bed for just over 2 hours now and still looks comfortable so, fingers crossed he stays that way tonight!!
Well it does indeed make sense that Kazi would be a tad more wired with a gravid (or any female)above him(especially this time of year right after brumating). This is normal beardie behavior and is probably making your take on the issues hard to distinguish. I know its hard but this part of it is to be expected but maybe what you can do is make sure Phoebe goes to bed an hour earlier then Kazi this way he has a good hour to wind down before bed and can sleep well at night. Also I know your going to the vet for more Panacur but please ask him about the Droncit before he gets the Panacur,it is generally more effective then Panacur when dealing with Tapeworms and since he still has evidence of them in his poop it may be worth trying.
We were doing an out-of-viv laybox when Lilly was gravid. Could you possibly set up something like that and move her away from Kazi? I know you said space was limited, but a 20 gallon laybox is easier to move than a giant viv. Just a thought.
