Hi! My grand daughter got a new bearded dragon for Christmas that now lives at my house. She received bad info from the pet shop so I'm sure you know how this story goes. Spike got sick and wouldn't eat, he had jerks and diarrhea. I have been on this board for weeks just reading and researching without making a post. I had to let everyone know with all the excellent advice Spike has made a 100 percent turn around.

I fed him repti boost and baby food for weeks without seeing much improvement. I had to order his UVB light so I had to wait on that to come in the mail. The improvement really came when I put it inside his cage. He done a complete turn around and is now a lil piggie. It seems like he just can't get full, and his poop is normal. He is very active also which is a big

I'm using a fish tank light fixture for now. I have it sitting on clothes hangers stretched across the cage. I bought Velcro to try to hang it up without the clothes hangers but there is a push in switch on the back so it won't sit flush. I got to figure something else out.

I have his hide sitting on a box for now with his hammock over top of that to get him close enough to the heat lamp to get the correct temp. I have a log ordered, but I didn't realize pet mountain was so far away so it has been a week and still no log. He lives in a twenty gallon tank right now that's not very pretty at all, but at least he's healthy. I will be getting him a new tank soon.

I just wanted to thank everyone for all your help!

I will post pics when I figure out how to do it. I have been to busy in the ER section lately.

Hello Missy, we are so glad you found us. Happy to hear that the advise that you read about really helped your granddaughter's beardie and that Spike is doing so much better. :p It's so unfortunate that pet store employees don't know the correct info to share with new owners. That's what brought most of us here because we had doubts that we were given the right info.

If you have any questions, please let us know. Here's a link that should help you with posting pictures on the forum. We sure LOVE pictures. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=152184

It's so funny I really don't hold him a lot because I didn't think I liked reptiles..lol. He has really won my heart with all those special feedings and stuff. When I first started handling him I used a camo glove...I know ridiculous but that's just the way it was it sort of creeped me out. I love him to death now, he's such a survivor. When he sees that glove now he comes a running because he knows he's getting out.

My grand daughter stays with me a lot so she does most of the bathing and playing. She is only 11 and has a lot going on with school and stuff so she didn't have the time for all the extra care Spike needed. We were told these lizards need very little care, but that is so wrong. If anyone believes this please reconsider because they do need care and are not cheap to set up. We have a crappy cage right now, but he has everything he needs to thrive now.

Good job putting the pictures up. :p He is a real cutie. Looks very proud and inquisitive on his hammock.

It can be expensive setting the tank up but once you have all the best supplies, accurate temps, etc then it's just upkeep like replacing the UVB lights and checking temps occasionally. They really ARE very loving & also VERY smart. You will learn to read his body language as that's how they actually communicate with us.

Your granddaughter is a very lucky girl to have such a wonderful creature as this beardie.

Thanks for posting the pictures.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
