i have three great little guys jay, silent bob ,and pigglet when i got my guys i was told that they where the easiest lizards to keep (petco dudes words) well after i had them home and thought settled in i found a whole new world the guy at the the store was just full of wrong info like you only need to feed them crickets once a day(they where baby's) to leave meal worms in there tank 24 7 and that sand is a great sub for there tanks and not to mention temps and lighting any way after a few problems and some trial and error my guys are now happy and healthy and they own me not the other way around and its all because of the great people on this site and at beautiful beardy and i really want to say thank you very very much

Thank you for doing the research! there are so many who never bother, it's really sad.

They're not really that hard after you get the hang of it and get your routine down. it's just different than caring for mammals.

to post pictures: upload to a photo sharing site like photobucket. you'll see some codes under the picture when your done, one will be labeled IMG copy and paste that in the post. But most importantly the code format should be [ img ] page link [ / img ] but without all the spaces.

I totally agree! The breeder (from a reptile show, who just wanted to get rid of Midna because of her missing the tip of her tail so thats why I bought her for $20) asked what kind of reptiles that I already had and I told him about my Sulcata. He told me that I could feed the beardie the same thing, but feed it a couple of crickets every now and then. And of course, he told me to use sand as the substrate. When I got home I checked around on the internet and found this site. I have been learning so much since then. And now I have a happy and heathly beardie which makes me happy :D :blob5:

Wow, that is so low. I can't believe people sometimes, just to make a sale

I completely agree!! I went through the same thing... I have learned so much from this site! All the people on here are great. The pet store told us the same thing.... just use the sand, a couple crickets, rock heater, and they are the easiest things to take care of. When my husband asked about the rock heater.. (Which we had heard NOT to use one) the guy at the pet store got defensive and said it was the "new" thing to do, and the lamps are an old fad. It is actually sad because he obviously was not educated on how to properly take care of a bearded dragon! :( But my husband and I are just loving this site... it's like beardie world!!

ROFL. I'm not sure how long rock heaters been around, but I got my first reptile 20 years ago and they were a known for overheating and burning reptiles then too.

I'm sure the guy was just trying to make a sale. Otherwise, I don't know why he got so defensive about it. He said all you need is a rock heater and a heating pad!!! No lamps because they will melt the screen and then the lamp can fall into the tank and kill the beardie. Okay, now I'm practically laughing because I know that's not true at all!! He just didn't know what he was talking about... but overall it is sad because he's spreading this around telling other people that probably believe and follow his advice. :banghead:

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
