When they lay on top of eachother it's usually a show of dominance. It's not unheard of for a smaller or younger dragon to show dominance over older ones in some cases. I think it just comes down to their personalities. I would keep them apart in case they start to show aggression which can lead to pretty serious harm.
Sometimes it has nothing to do with dominance but it is the comfy spot they seek up near the bulb. Dragons tolerate each other until they don't, meaning they can get along fine and then snap at one another, usually looking at a foot or tail as something to eat when they get hungry. Best to put them in separate tanks , although some do live together , generally when they've been together from the time they're small and are pretty much the same size.
Beardies are not social animals and will see each other only as competition, not pals. They will live more peaceful lives apart and you dont have to worry about injuries to the little one.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I adopted 2 dragons who had lived together with previous owners for over a year and had them seperated within a week. They are so much happier for it.
