Hi everyone! I've been perusing the intro messages since yesterday, when I got my new little babie beardie, tentatively named Logan. Lots of great information here! I didn't realize there was sooo many bearded dragon enthusiasts! But, now I know why. I think I picked a gem of a baby. I didn't ask the age, but he's approx 6" long or so. He's a Sandfire cross, and had the most color, very reddish with olive.
From the moment I released him from his little tub (which he hated), to his 36"X36"X24 vision tank, he's been a source of a lot of amusment. He ate a bunch of crickets in his first minutes in there, and was tasting everything. He even drank some water off my finger, then went right to his dish, and plunged his face in for a good long drink. Then he kept trying to leap up to the UVB light grating, and missing of course, plopping down.
His basking spot, I discovered, wasn't quite warm enough. This morning he was under it while it warmed up, and lifted up a front leg, as if to get warmth on it lol. Then he went after his breakfast with gusto. I left him for awhile to go get a larger wattage spot basking light, 100w now. When I got back, he watched me put the bulb in, and peered up at the new light almost approvingly. Then went after his dinner like a Great Hunter. What a crack up, watching him very slowly stalk, then pounce on the unsuspecting cricket. Then, to my surprise and delight, he started eating his greens, that I had sprinkled on the driftwood by his basking spot. He even ate some from my fingers!! He has no problem with me touching him, and likes me to stroke him under his chin.
Then I got down on the ground, out of my wheelchair, to attend to my water dragon for a few, and when I looked up, he was peering at the glass to see where I went LOL. He's adorable, and I don't know why I haven't gotten one earlier. I've been into herps for a decade! I think it was mostly cuz of having to chop up veggies, and the extra care they require. But it's totally worth it!
So, glad I found this place, and looking forward to reading lots more
I'm Tami btw. I've got a wonderful dog, a German Shepherd, Borias, who I trained as my Service dog, and two cats, Bono and the Edge, a water dragon, and leopard gecko.
I have a picture of him already, but not sure how to put it in a post, yet.
