That is correct. Since there have been some issues with the Repti-Glo 10.0, the safest way to use it is with it 10" from your beardie. Since the Repti-Sun is a better bulb and no health issues associated with it, then it can be 6 to 8" away.crickest":639fb said:6 - 8 " for the Repti-Sun. I think the 10" away was in regards to the Repti-glo.
Yeah i am using calcium and vitamin suppliments, he is 10 inches right now and already eating bigger crickets...a little bigger than 1/2 inch. are these too big? they are about the size between his eyes. and he eats about 20 a day with veggies. maybe crickets are too big and filling him up?Trogdor_1":948ea said:The proper distance from a good UV source should only be about 6 inches. Using the reptiGLO 10.0 bulbs requires further distance as the bulb has been linked to eye problems. I suggest buying reptiSUN 10.0 bulbs. Petmountain.com has them for about $20.
Also, your beardie should be eating small crickets... about 1/4 inch size. And he should be eating between 50 and 100 crickets per day. Dividing them up into three or four feedings generally works best. Are you using calcium and vitamin supplements for your little one? If so, what kind? Proper calcium intake is essential to beardie growth and overall health.
flukers calcium five times a week..and yea i ordered the bulbs yesterday so should be here soonTrogdor_1":4be08 said:I would stick to the 1/4-1/2 inch crickets for him. But he should be eating more than 20 per day. Usually when the UVB isn't the best and the basking temps aren't right, their appetite will decrease. My babies generally eat about 75 crickets each day along with at least one bowl of salad. You should see improvement in his eating habits if you switch him to a different UV source. What kind of calcium are you using and how often?
Yes the calcium does have d3 in it, and i m dusting one feeding per day for fve days on the calcium. Also ordered the repCal herptivite with the lights. Baslking temps are good and basking spot is 6 inches away. Thanks for the help! is there any other important things im missing?Trogdor_1":6c1a0 said:I'm not sure how good the calcium is that you are using. Double check if it has D3 in it. With the UV lights you're using, you will need D3 in the calcium. Are you dusting one feeding per day, five days per week? You may also want to grab some RepCal Herptivite, too. It's a good vitamin supplement. With babies, you would use it on one feeding, two times per week.
It's great that you ordered the new bulbs. Make sure you either lower your lights or raise you basking platforms when they arrive so that your beardie is within 6 inches of the bulbs. And don't forget to double check basking temps. When you start adjusting heights of platforms, the temps may change a bit. Do you have a digital thermometer or infrared temp gun?
