is there any consequence to putting a small beardie in a 55g

right now i have a bearded dragon that is 6-8" and he is currently in a 10 gallon tank but he is crammed in there and doesnt have very much room to run, which i know he loves to do when hes outside of his tank. since i dont want to keep getting bigger tanks would it be good to just get a 55g and put him in there? itd give him alot more room but is there anything that can happen when there in a big tank like that?

Just but in hides. He might have relocalion stress again from movie into a bigger tank. you have to watch out for that.

If I can recommend, I would get a 75 gallon tank rather than a 55 gallon tank because 55 gallon tanks tend to better for fish, not lizards, because of its narrowness. 75 gallon tanks are wider, apprx 18" wide, but are the same dimensions as far as height and length go for a 55 gallon tank. Lizards of that size need the space to turn around as adults.

Putting your baby in a 75/55 gallon tank now is quite alright =) He may go through a period of relocation stress, as mentioned above. The only other issue you may have may be feeding. When it comes to feeding time, just make sure you section off a portion of the tank or feed him outside of the tank in a smaller Tupperware container so that he may catch crickets and they don't go off and run under cage furniture and such before he can.

Otherwise, is it perfectly okay to move him into the larger tank.

well now that you mention it, the tank i was gonna buy i think could be 75gallon. i always thought it was a 55 but im thinking about it and its pretty wide, yet also pretty long. i probably will get that one then since the 55 gallon fish tanks i see are just to small for a bearded dragon to turn around in. and also as far as hunting goes im not worried. i use a 2" deep glass bowl and put the crickets in there and they cannot get out so he knows where they are. do you have any clue how much the 75 gallon would cost? i never did check the price of the one at the pet store near me. im going to need to get it soon i know that for sure because constantly my bearded dragon wants out of his tank so he can run around a bit. hes such a hyper dragon and hes stuck in a tiny 10 gallon, and it just doesnt seem right at all to me. ill get the bigger tank as soon as i can for sure, just i dont know if ill have the money but ill get it somehow!

75 gallon tanks run anywhere from $200-$250. I would look on Craigslist, as mentioned above, although it is a hit or miss. I bought my one 75 gallon from craigslist for $50 because the owner who had it previously said that it could no longer hold water. I had gotten by other one used for $75 at a petstore that had previously used it for salt water fish.

i dont think i can get one from craigslist since im in canada and i aint to into shipping a big tank around.ill get the 75g tank thats at the pet store near me since it has doors on the side of it which would be handy, even though i could probably find that somewhere else itd be easier to get it local. well probably after christmas ill get it since then i will have some money on me to buy it with, hopefully he doesnt mind that 10 gallon tank to much!
