I think I'm more worried...she's a little mad. She doesn't like being in a smaller tank while I wait for her's to dry completely. Plus, she only has a few rocks in there because we had to clean them with bleach too. So we're both feeling it...so is my boyfriend...he has to clean everything because I can't handle the bleach.
To get rid of it and to prevent it (well first they carry some naturally in their bodies, but they don't cause a problem unless something else goes wrong and triggers it)...anyways we had to do the bleach cleaning and will have to continue to, I think a couple of times a week...not quite sure...I'll ask. (That's mostly for the coccidia). She got de-wormed at the vet and we have to take her back in two weeks for another round. I have to give her...um...I'll look at the bottle later I can't remember the name at the moment...but a drop of it every day for 30 days. So, she has to go back in two weeks to get de-wormed and another fecal, then back after the 30 days for another fecal. It sounds like a lot, but it's like a puppy or kitten in a way. Except coccidia is more difficult to get rid of (or can be...her's isn't too bad so she should be better soon, I hope...thank goodness we caught it this early). She should be rid of the worms after the two doses...I think. Oh, and we'll be going through a lot of paper towels. Vet says it's the best way to clean up the poop and the fastest, which I agree (and knew
), but I'd really rather change and bleach her self-liner every day...but I'm not going to chance it.
Yup, Taz (I think that's what his name is going to be) arrived today. Bad timing though. We have to be even more careful now and I'm going to go ahead and either bring him in with Kaira in two weeks or try to get a "fresh sample" and bring that in. He's gorgeous though. Really bright red...he's smaller than Kaira was when we got her, which scares me a bit because his immune system isn't as strong. I'll get some pics up later, hopefully, and the ones I have of Kaira. We have to wash our hands if we touch one of them and then touch another, obviously, and no sharing a feeding tub or anything like that...which we had already planned on. We just have to be super careful to not pass it on to Taz, unless the stress of shipping and everything triggers the coccidia, then we just have to do the same for him. He's already on paper towels and has had everything cleaned and will be on the same cleaning schedule as Kaira.
On a happier note, although he is a bit jumpy (he can actually jump pretty high lol) he's already eaten some mustard greens, which is always reassuring. He doesn't seem to like silkies or just isn't ready for them, so I'm going to go ahead and order some Phoenix worms for him because I think those are one of the ones he is used to.
What all are you feeding Tank? I'd like to get away from crickets completely (which the vet told me I couldn't do, so atleast reduce the number of crickets), but I need another feeder besides silkies. I'm so happy he started eating! That's great. I bet you're relieved. It sounds like he's eating normally now too...not just eating more.
I was planning on getting Kaira a fecal when we got her but she was doing so good I put it off. I don't think that it came from anywhere specific. She's just been moved around a bit too much since we got her. I don't know enough about the worms and stuff to say how she got them. I made sure that she was never walking around in her feces, which is the main source of the coccidia, but I guess I wasn't careful enough. So Taz will be getting checked. I don't know all the symptoms and the vet didn't think anything was wrong until she actually did the test...so Kaira is healthy otherwise (a little tubby is what I was getting from the vet, but not fat lol)...she just needs some extra help to get over this other stuff.
Anyways, yeah it's stressful and now I have to make sure Taz doesn't get it, but we'll all be ok. It's not that bad of a case...she's just my baby and now we have another one to love :love5: and take care of (and of course, I'll be worrying just as much about him).
