Hey everyone! First time beardie owner here. Meet Diego. I got him 3 weeks ago, he is about 12 inches long at 5 months old. Im currently keeping him in a 40 gallon breeder but plan to upgrade to a 4x2x2 at least when he grows up. Im currently feeding him 10-12 medium Dubia roaches with collard greens spread between 2-3 feeding sessions daily. Im so excited to watch him grow up :)

Welcome! Hi Diego 😊 He looks quite smart and handsome. Are those stress lines always there or do they just show up at certain times?

Oh they're the lines on his tummy and beard.

I've attached a picture. I'm just asking that cuz they can be caused by a number of reasons including stress, temperature etc. I've seen beardies that had stress lines all their lives too, but generally speaking if they're showing up ALL the time you wanna err on the safe side and eliminate possible causes.

Oh yes those have been there all the time ive had him. His husbandry is good so I dont think its due to stress.

Helloooooooooooo Diego. Welcome to the family! Please know that the many pictures could be the reason to cause the stress if the husbandry is correct. Don't be surprised what can cause it. Remember, Diego is new to you, new to the home so the pictures could be overstimulating.

To date, my beardie has stress marks when he wants to get out or simply doesn't get his way but when I pick him up, they go away. Did you notice any change once you held him?

Stress is caused by relocation improper uvb improper surface basking temps-- please make sure you have 2 digital probe thermometers for correct surface basking temps-- and no coils for a uvb- one he becomes acclimated to the tank and his surroundings they will go away but your husbandry must be on par

I agree with Karrieree 100%.
Also for a 5 month old 10 to 12 dubias per day is not enough protein, at his age he is still growing and needs the protein to do so, he also needs calcium once per day and multivitamins 2 to 3 times per week.
This is a great forum with a lot of very knowledgeable folk. Feel free to ask about anything, there is someone here that can answer pretty much any questions you may have.
Your beardie is gorgeous btw and welcome to the forum. 🙂

I give him calcium and multivitamin I forgot to specify. Also is 12 dubia roaches a day not enough? How many should I be giving him? My breeder told me 10-12 a day at his age so I must be missinformed :/. Thank you so much for the help. Also for refrence im feeding him medium dubias, around 5/8 of an inch.

on the lighting side of things I think im good. He has an arcadia T5 12% UVB light and his basking temps are good too.

He should be fed salads everyday - get some bsfl to use as lures and salad toppers feed first feeding of the day as many as you want to they are a great staple feeder- offer the dubias 2 times per day 10 - 15 each feeding depending on how much salad and bsfl he eats - you will need a ceramic or glass bowl to keep them in

I can feel her staring into my soul demanding food
She was having a staring contest with a mealworm. I guess I never taught her to not play with her food, lol.
bro went to bed already, it’s 10:36 pm
Definitely going to be using this image if I ever catch a fence lizard again.
