hey everyone, Chase my beardie is about 5 or 5 1/2 inches long, he/she has been with me for a week now, ALMOST comfortable with me but still believe has relocation stress a bit, anyways i was wondering since he isn't eatting as much crickets (plan on buying pinheads or 1/8), but is there anything else that that I could feed Chase? :?: ? The crickets he eats are really just about exactly the width of his eyes, my guess is that he can't fit the rest of the other crickets i toss in his viv, i think he gets full off of only a few crickets. But is there anything else? PW's ? SW's? Etc. Help a fellow beardie parent out

phoenix worms are great, just abit expensive. if you can get them, more power to you. super worms are waaay too big, id stick with pinheads and PW. even baby roaches would work, youd just have to deal with all the adults too.

Yeah, at that size, there is not a whole lot they can eat. Phoenix worms are great, though. I have been feeding them to my little one since about that size. She took to them pretty quickly, and can't live without them now.. To keep them affordable, I feed them to her once a day. I put about three dozen on a plate with chopped collard greens, which tricks her into eating extra greens. I feed crickets in the evening.

But, one thing to consider, you said he only eats a few crickets... mine never used to have an appetite, until I finally got everything in her cage spot on. Tell us about your cage.. temps, how you measure them, what you use for a UVB source, size, etc. I bet there is something we can figure out to get your boy a better appetite!

ok well, I have a 40G Viv, Ceramic tiles as substrates, i use a 100 watt ZooMed MVB (I've read it's the best way to go) Basking site reach to about 105-110F and the cool side is at about 80-85F, I measure the basking spot with a digital thermometer and place probe right on the surface of the basking spot, on the cool side i have those dial thermometers(stick-ons, I know they're no good, gettin a digital one next pay check) I have logs for my beardie to climb, at night i have a 60 watt red bulb(i know bad, i'm getting the ceramic emitter tommorow, could the purple one be used as well since you don't see anything with them?) I believe thats is it, but look for yourselves i have two videos on youtube.....

Do you know of a good place I can order some PW's/Crickets?

Well, your cage conditions sound just about perfect! Have you had a fecal done? It may be worth checking into.. There is likely something underlying which is causing his appetite to be so little..

Do you know of a good place I can order some PW's/Crickets?

I have ordered my Phoenix Worms from Premiumcrickets.com along with my crickets, which I liked for convenience. But, I decided to stop ordering from premium, and I ordered my last batch from phoenixworm.com. I will never order from anyone except phoenixworm.com because they were all wiggly and fat and fresh. The ones from premium were ok, but I am switching to a new cricket supplier, for now..

how does that work? Do I have to take my beardie with me? Or just pickup some of his fecal and take it to the Vet? How much does it noraml cost?(estimated w/the checkup) and What would I need to do to travel with my beardie so that it's safe and warm when I take him to get looked at? Who knows how long i would have to wait for to see the vet and what items will I need for Chase? Do you know of any good Vets in (northern) NJ? I would need to go to a Vet specialized in working with reptiles so I can get the correct answers.

Just call a vet near you to find out if they can help you there. Reptile specific vets are always best, but a 'regular' vet may do just fine. Collect the, um.. freshest, poo and put it in a zip top bag to um.. keep it fresh. Then just bring the sample in. It may be a good idea to bring your guy in, too, so he can be weighed and checked out. Vets can vary in price greatly, but it could run you $20-50. The vets you call should be able to give you a general idea of what the fecal test would be. Any medicines would cost extra.. My vet charges about $20 for a fecal, I think.. but he is reasonable. I brought my cat in because she was constipated, and he examined her, and we walked out with two medicines for $50. I was grateful my baby was ok, but also that my checkbook was too..

When you travel with him, put him in a carrier that is kind of small (but not too small), put in a few rags, dish towels or blankies for him to hide in. You can add a hot-hands (wrapped to prevent burning) or a warmed rice-filled sock for extra heat on the drive, but I have never felt the need for that.. As long as your car is warm, and you don't expose him to the cold too long, he will be just fine for a few-hour trip..

Every vet charges something different, so I'm afraid our estimates won't do you any good. You can check this site to find a vet- http://www.herpvetconnection.com/. Whether or not you take your dragon depends on if you're interested in getting him a checkup too. They can do the fecal without him (The sample you bring in needs to be fresh as possible. I think the max oldest it can be is 24 hrs.) At his age though, I don't think there's much they can do even if he does have parasites... giving dragons less than 6 months meds can be dangerous. When I take my dragons out, I just put them on a leash and wear them under my coat, but they're all bigger than yours, I'd probably get a critter carrier/one of those mesh cat carriers to take him in.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
