How smart are baby beardies? My beardie has been sitting in a tree under his CHE after I lowered the temp on his basking rock due to my digital probe readings. I recently got a temp gun and turns out I needed to buy a higher wattage bulb to get the surface temp of the basking rock in the 105 range. With the new bulb installed, he moved from the tree back onto the basking rock and I noticed him gaping for the first time. From what I read, that means he is thermoregulating his body temp. The bulb I switched to seems like it would be pretty hot shining on his back, because it takes a lot of heat to get the surface temp of his rock up. My question is, would the little guy be smart enough to move out from under the light if it is too hot for the skin on his back? He was spending pretty much all day perched under the CHE and not under the basking light when I had the previous bulb.
