To be feeding Wolfgang large crickets.

My parents went over to Petsmart yesturday to get crickets. And apparently one or two of the workers said that I should be moving him up to the large ones. And my dad believed them because they said their had beardies of their own. Umm...He's only six months old, fourteen inches. I remember reading that he should be a year...(Or sixteen inches?) before he gets large crickets.

Now my parents are trying to push me into feeding him those, but I'm honestly uncomfortable with the idea. I want to keep feeding him the small ones for at least another couple more months, or until he's an adult.

So is it really time? Or should I keep feeding the small ones?

Mine has been on large for a while, sometimes the size of the large fluctuates at my local pet store. I remember how they looked so big in comparison when he first had them, but always gobbled them up just fine. And then seemed to get bigger real fast!!!!

No larger than the space between their eyes is the rule of thumb, however some of Charlie's crickets grow a bit faster than Charlie can eat them, so I just keep the crickets (and Charlie) really well hydrated and the temps high enough to aid in digestion. I feed the crickets greens, nature zone beardie bites and water crystals and I let them get so that when I pick them up and hold them between my fingers, a droplet of moisture comes out of their mouth. Being well hydrated helps your dragon digest and pass the crickets. Small dehydrated crickets are much harder than larger well hydrated crickets (IMO). Just skip the ones that are fully winged unless they have just shed. Charlie is 12-13 inches and eats large no problem if that is what is available.
