Im Crazy, NEW SILKIE!!!

ok so i got my 900$ bonus this morning. i figured i would get robbed in taxes, but i didnt so i had a little extra left over (after paying 6month insurance and other bills) and ordered me a female crimson silkback this morning from a-1 reptiles. she will be here tomorrow morning! never thought i would pay almost $300 on a bearded dragon (includes shipping and weekend delivery fee) but she is adorable. i have been eyeballing her the past 2 weeks. lol.

i know silkies arent common yet, but i want some opinions.

they say to rub them down with utter cream once or twice a week to help them shed and keep their skin from drying out....so im wondering...even though they need a dryer habitat...do you guys think it would benefit her to set up a humid hide like i do for my leos? i would still rub her down with the cream and bathe her, but humid hides are excellent for shedding and my leos love them!

other than that, i am looking forward to tomorrow morning. i am on onsite manager for public storage, but i dont live on site at the property i run. so i have managed to convince the other manager to let me work her store tomorrow, and she can work mine. that way im home for delivery. rob would be home to get her regardless, but i am an excited momma!

ok heres the good part, here she is. was thinking either Rosie, Sookie, or Lola. haha

a bit off topic, noticed my water dragon is gravid...not fertile. but i hate this time of year with her. i set out a lay box every year for her, but she insists on laying the eggs in her pool...ugh. explains why she has skipped the last few feedings. my poor little porky baby. haha.

If you would be so kind, would you share (or pictures if you're feeling up to it) how one ships a dragon? I am SO CURIOUS. I'd be so afraid to have a little baby shipped to me - but apparently people do it all the time.

I have zero knowledge of silkies, but just wanted to say GRATZ on the new baby!!!! No, you aren't crazy. You're a fan of the reptiles

ok change of plans. since i live in indiana, and she is shipping from ohio, i am waiting till next week to get her. we have been under an extreme heat advisory over here and they cant ship her till monday. i am off work wednesday, so i asked them to ship her tuesday so i would be available to get her wednesday. i hate it that i have to wait, but its best for her.

they will most likely put her in a snake bag, then an insulated box, then put that insualted box into the cardboard shipping box. they will put air holes in both boxes for her. she will be flown from ohio to indy, then special delivered to me wednesday morning before noon. they will also send me a tracking number for her. it can be stressfull, but they keep the boxes cool and dark to minimize stress. and the animal is also flown over and hand delivered to someone. you open the box right away, then report to the breeder that you got her, and if there were any issues. its all done quick and simple. just put your baby somewhere quiet for a week to relax and adjust.

and true blood is awesome to watch. the books are even better. i was thinking rosie from AC/DCs song, Whole Lotta Rosie...or Lola from the kinks song Lola. then rob txted me with Sookie this morning. lol

she is a silkback, not a leatherback. she is the 5th one down on the list with SOLD on her pic. so she was 200$ with 55$ shipping. if it hadnt been for the heat, i would have paid an additional 15$ for saturday deliverly.

I've read all the Sookie books (what were they, they all had Dead in the title? Southern Vampire stories? I can't remember).

Thanks for the shipping info - I've always wondered how one successfully ships a little baby dragon.

Pretty girl, I don't have much experience with other types of dragons and I hesitate learning cause then my love would be divided between them :lol: and I couldn't love them (I really mean spoil :wink: ) quite as well. :wink:

ive never watched the box openings, but i think i shall have to.

i have my 2 normals and fell in love with dexter (my leatherback) last month (unexpectedly lol). i have seen the silkies, and done a little research and found my little girl (unexpectedly as well because i perfer the males lol) and told myself to wait. but having extra bonus money, id been eyeballing her for 2 weeks, and she was STILL available...destiny told me to get her! lol

and i know what you mean about the prices....some of the red italian silkies i was looking at were 600$ plus shipping. holy cow! 200$ is just fine for me!

yea all the sookie books started out dead something. dead as a doornail, dead in dallas, etc. her newest one (dead and gone i think) was pretty good. could have been better though.

that lemon ice was pretty, but i was looking for something different with the skin. she will make beardie number 4 and i cant wait! im not too worried about dividing my attention. from the miniute i walk through the front door at night till i go to bed, i have a beardie with me! sometimes a snake or 2 if its not a beardie. i have my 3 balls and they like to pile up together in my lap in the evenings...and my redtail cuddles in my hands and goes to sleep. or my male leo will curl up between my shoulder and the couch and go to sleep. were all a happy family! lol

haha thank you. shes such a stinker at times. she has the attitude of a 13yr old who thinks they know it all. then when you cover her with love she fidgits cuz she doesnt want her friends to see. but she is a snuggle baby when she wants to be. lol
