I'm a Mommy Again!! Everyone Meet Ember & Introducing Kai!!

About a month ago I went to check out a clutch of babies at my local reptile store. I wasn't ready, but wanted to look. They were gorgeous! Fast forward to today, I called them and was told they only had one left. Was it a sign? Was this the one meant to be mine? I decided to go after work to see if it was still there and sure enough it was! Needless to say, I'm a new mommy!

I asked to hold it and as the owner of the shop took it out I asked if he could tell if it was male or female. He checked and is pretty sure it's a female. So for now, she's a she. A few seconds after I got her she licked my sweater and I was sold. I just adore that behavior.

On the ride home, she pooped in the container we were sent home with so I had to pull over to change the paper towel. When I got her home I put her right in her viv and she started moving around almost instantly. She started on the cool side, but quickly made her way over to the basking side. She also ate 20 phoenix worms for me.

She's very alert and seems to be very curious. She's been watching me and the dogs like a hawk every time we walk by her. One of the workers at the store said he was very surprised she was there so long and that she's a little ham. I can't wait until she's all settled in.

As for names, I really like Ember and Cinder, but I haven't decided officially yet.

So Miss Ember is still doing great! She had her second bath Sunday afternoon and it went better than the first. She was in for a good 20-25 minutes before I decided it was long enough as the water was getting too cool. It looks like she's getting ready to go into shed again. The tip of her nose and her lower front legs are starting to turn that darker grey color. More baths in her future!

She's really starting to come out of her shell. Sunday night I let her run around on the floor for a few minutes and she licked a few things before running back towards her viv so I put her back in. She definitely feels safe and secure in there. Last night when I took her out for bed time cuddles she decided she wanted to explore the computer desk a bit first so I let her check it out and then she settled in nicely and fell asleep on me. I love her little wiggle when she's getting comfy. She really is a sweetheart.

Thanks! I think she's adorable too. I couldn't be any happier with her. She's such a sweet girl and she's coming out of her shell more and more each day.

Today's bath time. She's much more relaxed in the tub now. I think she actually likes it now.




She's eating like a champ! You can see her belly is getting bigger and bigger. I can't wait to weigh her on Saturday to see how much she's grown over the week.

What a cute little girly you've got there! I love her color of orange/red - really rich and vibrant but with a natural, earthy undertone. It's fun to watch their bellies grow over time, and owning a Rankins has made it seem crazy how much beardies can eat! :lol:

Thanks guys, I'm so over the moon for her! I think she's such a beautiful little thing and her personality is really starting to come out. She's starting to really enjoy being handled which is good. Tonight I let her have her first real play session as I let her run around the room. She did great! She's a speedy little thing and she licked everything! After about 20 minutes I put her back in her viv much to her dismay. She did not want to go back in!

Ok guys, I'm dealing with my first Ember crisis. I went to work and she was fine. This afternoon when I went home on my lunch hour she was breathing rather heavily and slightly puffing out her beard. I picked her up and saw her face around her mouth was shedding and it looks like both nostrils are also blocked. Would this cause heavier than normal breathing? As I said, she was fine this morning. Temps are good. Humidity is only at 22% right now. She ate some crickets just now and had two normal poops waiting for me when I got home.

It seems it was definitely the nose plugs. When I came home tonight one of them had come out on it's own, but she was breathing normally again. I gave her a nice warm soak and got the other one out with no problems. She seems to be perfectly fine now and has chased down a few crickets.
