I'm a Mommy Again!! Everyone Meet Ember & Introducing Kai!!

About a month ago I went to check out a clutch of babies at my local reptile store. I wasn't ready, but wanted to look. They were gorgeous! Fast forward to today, I called them and was told they only had one left. Was it a sign? Was this the one meant to be mine? I decided to go after work to see if it was still there and sure enough it was! Needless to say, I'm a new mommy!

I asked to hold it and as the owner of the shop took it out I asked if he could tell if it was male or female. He checked and is pretty sure it's a female. So for now, she's a she. A few seconds after I got her she licked my sweater and I was sold. I just adore that behavior.

On the ride home, she pooped in the container we were sent home with so I had to pull over to change the paper towel. When I got her home I put her right in her viv and she started moving around almost instantly. She started on the cool side, but quickly made her way over to the basking side. She also ate 20 phoenix worms for me.

She's very alert and seems to be very curious. She's been watching me and the dogs like a hawk every time we walk by her. One of the workers at the store said he was very surprised she was there so long and that she's a little ham. I can't wait until she's all settled in.

As for names, I really like Ember and Cinder, but I haven't decided officially yet. :)

Here are some pics.

She is beautiful! We got another beardie today and named it (not sure sex) Ember. Ember is only 3 weeks old and so little but I couldn't resist. Our other beardie is 4 months old and his name is Spyro.

Hello Mandy,

She is beautiful! She has great colors & looks very healthy. :D
The tank looks great as well, that took some work, too.

I bet she is very active now & eating?
Did you decide on the name yet?

Thanks everyone! Yesterday I did start calling her Ember so I guess that's the name I've chosen for her. It seems to fit her.

Today's her 2nd full day with me and she's doing great! She hasn't shown the slightest stress marks that I've seen so far. Her belly is always that creamy white color. She is active, very curious, and alert. She loves watching things especially the dogs. When they come into the room she watches them like a hawk. Last night one of my dogs was playing with her ball next to the viv and I swear she never took her eyes off of her.

She has a strong appetite so far. Yesterday she ate about 20 phoenix worms for breakfast and another 25 crickets later in the day. This morning she ate 31 phoenix worms before going back to her basking platform. Her salad also appeared to have been touched yesterday.

She's still pretty shy about being held, but we're working on it. I held her a few times yesterday for only a few minutes at a time and always while she was still in her viv so if she wanted to get down she could easily get down. Sometimes I just open the door to her viv and talk to her or pet her. I think she's slowly getting used to it which is good. I knew this would most likely happen so we're just taking baby steps to help her adjust. I'll be picking up a new tub tomorrow night so Saturday I'll attempt her first bath. I hope she likes the water as much as Dewey did. We shall see! :)

Here's a cool pic I took of her last night. She's so stinkin' cute!

Man, this girl is a big eater! I didn't count the number, but she had several crickets for lunch and more for dinner. I don't have a feeding bin and prefer to not let crickets run loose in her viv so for now I'm feeding them out of a bowl. Yesterday I had to tilt the bowl so she could eat them. Today she literally jumped in! I'll be getting a bin of some sort tomorrow to use as her feeding bin. Then she can put her hunting skills to good use. :)

The lights in her viv were about to go out in 15 minutes so I picked her up one last time just to say goodnight. I've been keeping the handling time pretty short as she's still pretty nervous about being handled. Well, this time she completely surprised me by climbing up towards my neck on her own. After sitting for a few minutes I could feel hear little head as she started nuzzling in. She fell asleep, but woke up as soon as my dog started playing with his toy. At that point I put her back in her viv so she could sleep. Just one of those special bonding moments. I'm looking forward to many more! :D

Those pictures are fantastic! Do you mind if I ask what camera you're using?

Her colors are so pretty and I'm glad she's adjusting well and to see that you guys are really bonding. It's an amazing feeling that first cuddle.

It was definitely a very special moment. Completely caught me off guard. The past few times I've held her she tolerated it, but would always try to get back down after a minute or so. This was the first time she actually climbed up me. Very sweet! :)

Zandi, I use a Canon T3i. It's a member of the DSLR Rebel series. I've had great luck with them and as you can see the pics are pretty awesome! :)

Well, Ember had a pretty eventful day today. She got her first bath! She did really well. At first she didn’t want to let go of my hand, but I gently guided her into the water. She did some soaking and a bit of swimming before pooping. At that point, bath time was ended. She was in there for about 5-10 minutes. I’m going to try again tomorrow. I didn’t want to overwhelm her by putting her back in today.

She’s still eating like a horse! She loves her feeders. The salad has appeared smaller, but I haven’t seen her eating it yet. She’s getting better with being handled too. This afternoon I picked her up, but she didn’t want to go back into her viv.

Everything has been great so far! She’s such a sweet heart!

Looking for confirmation that she is indeed a girl. I believe she is. She has that little bump in the center.

Bath time!!

Post bath weigh in.

She’s just so stinkin’ cute!!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
