Actually Felly, 28 celcius is equal to 82.4 farenheit so that temp is find for over night. If it went down to 20 celcius, that would even be ok for his night sleeping.

Really? Ok thats really good. Ive insulated the hell out of it now and it stays alot warmer at night. And it def gets to 18 or lower here in winter. Its not always hot. Thankfully :p

Are you using the ceramic heat emitter at night now? Any idea how many watts that is?

How is he doing? Were you able to order any of those items?

Hey :) yeah im still using the ceramic dome but im not freaking out as much about the temp dropping at night now that i know it can get down to 20. I called about 20 pet shops and only one would order the tube in for me. But they wanted 95 dollars. I ordered it off that link you gave me for 60, with 20 for delivery including insurance and im happy with that :D just have to go to a place here called bunnings. Its like a home depot i think. And my bf will rustle up a strip hood. Hes an electrician so hell make sure its all correct and safe. When we get it and actually have it in the house i still might have to ask specifis about taking the plastic cover off. Just to make sure. If thats ok. Again thanks so much for youre help. Id be screwed without you :D

Great that you ordered the UVB light. Which one did you get, the Repti-Sun 10.0 tube or the Arcadia bulb? Sounds like you made out good with saving money by getting it from Amazon. 8) Will be handy having an electrician for a boy friend, I'm sure he'll get it all set up for you. Always happy to help.

Did you order a probe thermometer too? Don't forget, the readings you're getting now are probably off. Have you thought about using a standard household light bulb during the day for the basking bulb and just using the heat emitter for night?

Yep mitch went and bou ght a probe thermometer and hygrometer in one. Still trying to work out all the buttons...the instructions have only pictures. No words. Lol. Well work it out. I might use a normal bulb when i can get a second lamp. I doubt id remember to change it every morning/night now that i have a baby on the way. Ill try find one on ebay in the next few weeks/months.

Congratulations, I didn't know you were expecting. :D Is this your 1st child?

So you did get a thermometer/hygrometer, that's good. With the probe thermometers, you have to place the probe right on the basking log or rock (make sure the probe is touching it) and then wait at least 45 min for the temp to stop rising before getting the final basking temp. If you want to post a link to the one you got, perhaps I can help you with it.

Great that you ordered the Repti-Sun bulb.

How has your beardie been acting lately, anymore active & is he eating?

Yep our first. Pretty scary! But we'd been trying for 6 months. Im 12weeks now. Excitingggg.
I tested the temp on the basking spot and i was shocked at the difference! I know now that its like 5 degrees off. Sometimes a bit more.
The hygrometer/thermometer brand is reptile one.Cheapo brand I think but cost 40 bucks (gotta love australia and out limited options) I looked online myself and found only reviews and people selling it. Then again. I couldnt find a reptisun bulb and you did in a jiffy.

Its the second one down. Big ugly white one.

Since I changed to tiles and took his water dish out hes acting alot more alert. Although idk if its just me worrying but I think hes lost weight. My bf says he hasnt. Im still going to take him to the vet, but with buying the bulb and car repayments and everything.. Im broke beyond belief. Need money to feed my bump. Gonna keep a close eye on him and if he starts being odd again or getting skinny ill rush him in. but hes DEF way more ravenous at dinner time eating way more and alot fiercer too. Like he HATES the crickets. So funny. He might of just bee. Stressing out over the light/sand/humidity. Ill watch him closely.

I read through this thread and noticed lighting is a huge factor in behavior. I posted this question on the lighting forum, but I haven't had a response and was hoping maybe another post on a different message board would help. I have a 6 week old male beardie. He is in a 20l for now, 18 inch Reptisun 10.0 under the screen, 35w flood light for basking, 60w regular bulb for additional lighting, 103-110 heat side, 79-85 cool side. The temps fluctuate, I am trying to figure out how to maintain them a bit better... it's kind of a work in progress. I honestly don't know the humidity, I ordered a hygrometer but delivery has been delayed. The pet store here is terrible, I have ordered everything online. Today Atticus didn't eat very well, maybe 6 crickets all day. He has been alternating keeping at least one eye closed, although this evening he has kept his left eye closed more which is closer to the UVB bulb. I thought the basking rock was too close to the lamp so I lowered it to give more distance. Could there be something else going on? Or he just wasn't hungry today? I ordered some dubia roaches Friday. It seems like the crickets hide and he has trouble finding them, so I am checking out the roaches to see if he likes them more. I hope I gave enough information. Any help is greatly appreciated. oh, we live in Alabama (hot and humid) so I took him outside this afternoon for a bath in natural sunlight. Could going outside have affected him?

Hey your tank set up sounds fineto me. Although im no expert. Im worried about him keeping his eye closed though. Is he pooing regularly? Soaking once a week? If everything else seems normal I would seriously take him to the vet. not just a normal vet as they dont have much experience with reptiles. Google one in your area that specializes In reptiles. Young beardys arent very resilient when theyre sick. They deteriorate quickly and the longer you leave it the worse hes going to get and the more its going to.cost you. Althou gh keep in mind I am not an expert, I have had my beardy for a year and im just mimicking what others have told me. Hope he gets better xo

If he ate grass with pesticide on it, or a bug with a disease he could also get sick fast. Please take him to the vet, if you havent already. Let me know how he goes. Im worried for him.

Thanks for replying. I didn't let him roam in the grass, so no worry with bugs or grass. I bathe him in a 10 gallon with a bit of warm water. I placed the plastic screen back over the Reptisun UVB bulb and he hasn't closed his eyes since the post. He also ate 17 crickets yesterday and 9 first thing this morning... yeah! Since the only change I made since the post was covering the UVB light, I think he may have been getting too much or too close. He is going poop twice a day and it looks good. I am checking on a reptile vet in the area we live in and will drop off a fecal sample this week. Thanks again!

Yay! Im so glad he is better. A vet will be able to tell you exactly what was wrong.

Also make sure your beardie can get 6-8 inchs away from the UVB this is how I did it (it will have to be mounted inside the tank but theirs easier ways then mine)

So u ran a thin cheap piece of board across the tank like this

Then I put to hooks in the wood and the fixture and connected them with a chain and tha dah I'm done.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
