My little buddy never likes it when I take him out of his viv and gets too up high in the air while he's in my hand. He gets shaky and is always gripping my hand with his sharp claws. I took him out for some exploration today and he did something I haven't seen him do before. He flattened his body like a kite and started gliding like he was about to fall. I figured this is like a natural instinct they do when they jump from trees to trees in the wild...is it?

Hmm, sounds reasonable. I mean, beardies are semi arboreal. They are built for and do love spending time in trees. But not that high though, because my Nim hates being lifted up to high too. Since Nim is getting bigger I need to hold him with two hands instead of one. If I hold him with one he flattens out and flips his tail. Scared the heck out of me when I first saw it because I thought he was having a seizure. But once I got him on the ground he was perfectly fine like nothing had happened. Well, I think I answered your question. I hope this helps.

It varies from beardie to beardie. Fanta, my girl, would go a bit flat and grab on to my hand or arm as if her life was depending on it (even though she wasn't held high at all) and would try to do the "helicopter" with her tail (although her whole body was supported). On the other hand, my new baby, Star, did this a few days ago -->

Oh thats cute. The picture with him on the curtain rod. Mine hate it when they are up high, both of them. They try like the devil to get down lower and claw and everything from whipping their tail to hanging on for dear life. They are semi arboreal and lay in low lying branches and fence posts and such in the wild.
