Man. I wish we had "like" or thumbs up buttons here lol

Amen. I keep looking for the button. It's not there, so I'm over-posting. I'll try to tone it down. I'm an admin on a TF2 server (haven't been playing lately due to the fact that the Bearded Dragon Channel is so much more interesting. (That's what I'm calling his terrarium.)

"Like" this post if you want "like" buttons. Oh, wait...

The pet store workers are given very basic knowledge... from a less than accurate source. There was a guy at my local pet smart that would actually refer customers to me for questions on chinchillas, cause honestly the workers knew even less about chinchillas than they do about bearded dragons.

I just found an awesome new way to feed Spike his crickets. He lives in a 40g breeder, so crickets can get away from him fast. I tried moving him into a 10g to feed but he gets all scared and wont move or eat. SO.. I bought a small metal cat food/water dish that is only about an inch or two high. Spike can climb right into it.. and the crickets cant get out. It is too slippery for them to grip their legs and jump. The only way I have seen crickets get out is when they have climbed on top of another cricket and jumped... or climbed on top of Spike. I have used the dish every feeding since last night, which is about 6 times now since he eats 3-4 times a day. He jumps down off his branch and runs to the bowl. He stands there.. eats his 20-30 crickets.. and then just hops back on his branch when he is done. Then i take the bowl and dump the left over crickets back into the cricket bin!! No chasing left overs around his cage!

Er, LIKE!

Grover's too little for this, but I've tried shallow dishes with slick sides. The crickets can't climb out, but they can jump out. They are so good at hiding that I have found them in his cage TWO DAYS after cleaning carefully. They hide in his log. Unless I soak it, they will find a way to hide.

As soon as Grover is big enough, this will be great!

Rep Cal has a cricket shaker thing and it seems to be working good to feed Dino, and I will only give him one at a time since he too is in a 40 gal tank and he's just a baby.

DinotheDinosaur, you might want to get a smaller tank, like a 10 gallon, just to feed him crickets. I always did that when my crew were babies, it was so much easier than chasing crickets to get them out of the tank after a feeding. This way he can eat his fill, you don't have to worry about getting anything out but your dragon & all is good. Give it a try, even a 5 gallon tank would work. Babies are so cute, I have 5 adult males (as you can see on my sig) and was able to give up crickets years ago.

When I feed Nero crickets it's in his old 20 Gal tank he grew up in. He figured out very quickly all he had to do was stand in the middle by one side and wait for them to walk by, they would always seem to go in circles around the tank so he just sits there and eats them as they try to go by. We only feed him crickets once in a while now, his main staple now is Phoenix worms.

I read some articles and saw some pictures of what crickets can do to beardies while they're sleeping so when we moved him to the permanent viv, we started using the small one for feeding. Phoenix worms and greens go in his regular viv, I love the Phoenix worms.

Nero also loves horn worms for treats.

Hello. I have tried to put Zig into a 10gal about 3mo ago and he was so scared and all he wanted was out so I felt bad and took him out and fed him in his 40gal . I do have to make sure the cricks are all out before bed time (which is a search). I also saw that I should pull off the legs but this is grose for me to do. I also read that they love the chase is that true? I give phoenix worms and he loves them but i put them in a dish they cant get out of. I love the idea of the cricks in a cat dish w/ slippery sides I think I might try this.
But should they have the chase of getting them? He seems to like it but i dont want to stress him out or worse leave any in.

Before the cat dish... I would drop crickets in one at a time. This gave Spike the chance to chase them.. without me having to worry about leaving extra crickets in his viv. The only problem I had with that.. is after 10 crickets or so.. he got lazy. I would then have to hand feed him 20 crickets or so until he was full. He still gets excited and comes running for the bowl.

I feel bad, myself..I want the absolute best for my dragon, and I did some extensive research before buying. I got him, brought him home, and...fed him a mealworm. :( He had like 3 of them, and he's just a baby. I really hope he pulls through it okay, he's never going to have another again..

I bet he will be ok. Daisy ate mealworms for a whole week, 2 times a day. And that's when she started to get bloated and not going to the bathroom. I would just watch him and see that he goes to the bathroom ok.

After having Spike for a week... and not being able to get him to eat veggies or drink water... i thought to myself... I could give him meal worms in a dish of water. He had never had meal worms before. He ate like 30+.. and got alot of water. Poor baby was only a month or so old. He did not eat at all for a day and a half as he tried to digest that horrible mass of meal worms, but he is fine now. It was a great idea to get water in him.. but I never would have done it if the pet store people had not told me that baby beardies are often raised on meal worms!

As a side note... I know a woman and her husband that market themselves as professional reptile breeders and they feed their JUST hatched baby beardies meal worms. I actually happened to be there one day when she had a brand new clutch.. just out of the egg and she was picking out the smallest meal worms to feed them.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
