My bearded dragon got her toe amputated last week due to a cyst. She hadn't started eating after a week, so the vet told me to start syringe feeding her Repti-aid. She is really sick of having syringes forced in her mouth (for antibiotics and painkillers), so she wouldn't swallow the food slurry and instead it aspirated into her nostrils. It took me awhile to realize that she wasn't breathing. She wasn't visibly struggling to breath but just went limp and I couldn't get her to breathe despite patting her, shaking her, etc. In desperation, I put my mouth over her nostrils, made a seal and blew in a few times. Finally she took a breath.
She was still limp, so I headed to the vet who is 45 minutes away. On the way she started moving a bit and lifting up her head. The vet said that I saved her life with the beardie CPR that I managed. They gave her fluids and she perked up after a half hour. But it was terrifying!!
I just wanted to post this in case anyone else is ever in a similar position.
