I can't believe it took me so long...

to put foil around my protective` cage for the MVB. I just read somewhere on here to do this because the light are not so good for us. Well I have had my beardie for 4 months and have spent so much time in front of that light . I swear it will go right to my brain and cause cancer. Now I'm worried becuase my eyes feel funny when I leave the viv.

How could it take me so long to figure this out. I feel real stupid now. But let me tell you I love it now. Not to mention my small children are near the viv too.

If you have a deep dome you don't need to put foil up. I have my MVB's on stands above tanks and I am not worried about cancer or anything. Now we don't look at the bulb. UVB's do not penetrate glass.

One of my herper friends has a UV meter, and I was concerned about the same thing, so I had her bring it over. Granted, the light is about nine months old (100W MVB lamp), but the light is designed to focus the light in the direction the bulb is pointing. There was very little UV coming from the lamp at angles perpendicular to the direction of the bulb. Now, if you were standing right under the bulb for long periods of time, yeah, there may be a problem. Other than that, I wouldn't worry about it.

Argh.... I never heard this before - is this skin cancer? What exactly did you do with the foil tho (il be setting mine up soon and guess I should be taking precautions)!!!
