You did the right thing. And at least he knew a good home, even if it was just for a little while.

I don't think that's creepy, it's in memorial. And don't blame yourself, it's not your fault, you did the RIGHT thing, and him dying, it's just a part of life, it's sad yes, but even in that it brings joy that whoever died won't be miserable anymore, and you gave him something he'd probably never had before, love.
