Ok, this topic might be here somewhere but after some cursory searches I never found it. How did everyone choose the name they gave their bearded friend?
Here's my story:
When i adopted Julius he was too small to determine gender so i held off naming him.
Anyway, when i was in college, i decided to sell my cichlids and get back into owning reptiles. I bought a young, unsexed, veiled chameleon. My roommate and I, after a long night of mind alteration decided to name it Rod Stewart. lol, yes after the singer. And not because he or I liked Rod Stewart. It just seemed funny at the time. Well, Rod Stewart was a female. Back to Julius. When his gonads developed I decided to run with the "music" theme of naming lizards that began with Rod. I wanted a male name but I wanted it to relate to music I actually listen to. I was going to name him Ernesto, after Trey Anastasio of Phish (Trey's real name is Ernest), but didn't want to start calling my dragon Ernie. So I picked Julius, its a song title from the album "Hoist". It also fit his regal nature. He likes to sit and bask with his head high as if he's looking down upon his empire with his front arms flexed and his pectoral muscles clearly defined. Besides he's supplanted the cat as master of the house. And Enzo knows it.
I'd love to hear other keepers' stories and reasons because i'm sure some of them are as unique as our cold-blooded buddies.
