How you named your dragon

Ok, this topic might be here somewhere but after some cursory searches I never found it. How did everyone choose the name they gave their bearded friend?

Here's my story:

When i adopted Julius he was too small to determine gender so i held off naming him.
Anyway, when i was in college, i decided to sell my cichlids and get back into owning reptiles. I bought a young, unsexed, veiled chameleon. My roommate and I, after a long night of mind alteration decided to name it Rod Stewart. lol, yes after the singer. And not because he or I liked Rod Stewart. It just seemed funny at the time. Well, Rod Stewart was a female. Back to Julius. When his gonads developed I decided to run with the "music" theme of naming lizards that began with Rod. I wanted a male name but I wanted it to relate to music I actually listen to. I was going to name him Ernesto, after Trey Anastasio of Phish (Trey's real name is Ernest), but didn't want to start calling my dragon Ernie. So I picked Julius, its a song title from the album "Hoist". It also fit his regal nature. He likes to sit and bask with his head high as if he's looking down upon his empire with his front arms flexed and his pectoral muscles clearly defined. Besides he's supplanted the cat as master of the house. And Enzo knows it. :)

I'd love to hear other keepers' stories and reasons because i'm sure some of them are as unique as our cold-blooded buddies.

Most of my critters (and all my herps) are named after food, usually food they look like. The words are fun and it works out to be pretty gender neutral too :)

I have 2 snakes: Bacon and Sprinkles
Current dragon : Pepper (red)
Previous dragon : Tater (normal)
Mice: Brownie and Peanut

My females name is Jubbah. Similar to Jabba as in the Hutt but i didnt want to get sued for copyright :) so i imagine shes one of his offspring. She always has that same grumpy look, fat, lazy, and her mind is too powerful to be controlled by a Jedi ;)

Striker came with her name. Her previous owner named her that because of how quickly she strikes at her crickets. He thought she was a male, but even when I found out otherwise, I decided to keep her name the same. She knows her name, too. She looks at me or cocks her head when I say it. Maybe she's just responding to my voice, but who knows.

Eri is short for Eripio. It's a Latin word meaning "rescue".
Usually when I pick names (for pets, stuffies, game characters, etc,) I choose words in Latin or other languages for their meaning. :)

Harley Quinn....she is red and black(respectively). Harley Quinn is one of my favorite fictional characters. And favorite character from the Batman Universe.

After a busy weekend I come back to my post to find it has a life of it's own! I like the food theme, taterbug. Simple; no need to wait weeks or months to discover gender. And then there's Smaug. From the picture posted, it appears it's gonna be a while before he desolates anything lol but it's a great name. Plus my mom used to tell me my eyes would get stuck crossed if I didn't stop that... and today no crossed eyes. Maybe no lizard lips. ReptileMaster, was Basil's last name Broketail? And Harley Quinn is beautiful, reminds me of my little pal. Bluemorpho, I love the Latin references, don't know much Latin but I've always been fascinated by the evolution of languages. And then there's lizard-head... May he live a long Hoosier life like the rest of us natives. I'll keep checking up. Im thrilled with the responses so far. :D

For us, it was a no brainer. Husband used to play D&D (Dungeons and Dragons), and he created a dragon named Rinvereau. That was about 20 years ago, and when we got Rin, being that he is a "dragon" there was only one name choice, Rinvereau (Rin for short)

Rinvereau has a Forgotten Realms ring. I picture a red by the name but maybe it's inspired by a color more regal.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
