How warm should it be before you take your beardies outside to sit in the sun? We are going through a warm spell here in California right now, and while it feels warm to me (supposed to be 70) this weekend, I really doubt it is warm enough yet to take them out. Am I right? I swear I have such spring fever, I want to get myself, the kiddies, and the dragons out so bad! I guess 70 would be amient and I would need to check with my temp gun the acutal warmth of the basking spot right?

Thanks,
Stephanie

I wish it were warm here! Yeah I wouldn't take them out in temps below 70 but if it's sunny and not windy then 70's is ok though I prefer high 80's. It's all about good judgment. Just take into consideration where the sun is hitting, the wind, and humidity b/c what may feel good to you may be uncomfortable for your dragon. I'm sure a temp gun like you said is ideal but I've always just listened to their body language- mine get awfully fussy and squirmy when they are unhappy!

Yeah, I know what you mean about squirmy! I stood in the doorway with the door open a few times so the sun could shine down on my little rescue that has mbd, but I am just dying to get them all out in the sun! Next week it is supposed to get cold again...but tomorrow I might just try getting a few of them out in the sun! I will try to take pictures if I do and I will post them. :D

Well, I think 70 would be ok, so long as it's sunny and warm. I mean, most of us keep our houses around 70-72 anyways.

That is true, I hadn't thought of how warm my house is. But wouldn't the sun be cooler then their basking spot? I just dont want to make them sick or anything!

Hi...As long as it isn't windy, 70-75 is warm enough. Just check with your temp gun. However, do NOT put anyone out in their tank on warm days...they could fry with the sun getting intensified as it goes thru the glass.

I agree with the spring fever...I am so anxious to get my garden planted, but I haven't even got my plants started inside yet. It is cold here for us...20's at night and 50's days. I like the day temps but aren't good for taking critters outside or planting a garden.
Good luck

Oh no I actually dont have them in tanks anymore. Well the little itty bitty babies I do, but I dont think I would take them outside yet. My bigger guys are all in melanine cages. Eventually I want my husband to make me outside boxes with a wire top on one side and a hide on the other so I can put them all out and not worry about birds taking them. Right now I would just be holding them until they dont want to be out anymore. Speaking of being out do any of you worry about them getting worms or mites while outside? In the house in their cage it is such a controlled environment that I dont worry about that stuff, but outside....it seems like you are asking for a bug problem.

I dont think I will be able to do it tomorrow like I wanted. I just checked the weather and they changed the outlook. They are saying the high will be 66. I guess I will have to wait till it really is spring!

Hi...I give my dragons a teaspoon full of pumpkin once a month to keep the parasites under control. I got pumpkins in the fall & steamed it & froze it. But you can get a can of 100% pumpkin in the pie fillings section and freeze the leftovers. You can put it in an icecube tray then after it's frozen put the cubes in a baggie to be thawed as needed.

If you have horses or dogs, I wouldn't put the dragons where they have pooped.

Good luck

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
