Hermes has a vet appt on tues morning. WE are in Eastern Pa so it will be cold that day.
We will hve him in a 20 gallon tupperware container lined with a bath towel and will warm up the car first until the car is nice and warm. I am also going to buckle the container in the front seat by where the heat of the car will come out.
. Someone suggested that I take a hand warmer, wrap it in a pillowcase tightly and wrap a towel around that for another form of heat (and also to prevent burns for the lil guy) and put it in one side of the container so he is able to keep warm--it is a 15 min drive to the vets and I don't want him to get cold (it is supposed to be about 20degrees outside when I have to leave)
Thanks

When I take George out when it is cold, I wrap a hotwater bottle in a towel and put her on it then put an extra towel on her to keep her warm. I use a cat carrier to transport her.

I would think my hand warmer in a towel would be okay than as it doesn't get hotter than a hot water bottle. For the hot water bottle, do you just pour hot water into a water bottle and wrap it in a towel? also, how do you keep it from rolling on him?
I only have the tupperware container right now. I have a rabbit carrier but he would be able to get thru the holes right now I believe--will be fine when he is bigger

He should be fine. I did the dried beans in a sock in the mircowave thing. I put them under the dragons, put a towel on top, dragons... then a towel on top of the dragons. They were perfectly content and never changed their colors.

So a hand warmer should be fine? I think I feel better with a hand warmer than I do with a hot water bottle. (if to do a hot water bottle do I just feel the bottle with hot water?)

If I wrap a hot water bottle in a towel it won't roll around and squish him? It is supposed to be snowing when I take him. Things could get quite complicated if there is a delay. Is appointment is at 10am. If there is a 2 hr delay then the kids go to school at 11pm. Ugh! (cross that bridge when we get there)
What type of towel-just hand towel or washcloth over the dragon?
He is doing excellent today- :D -had about 20 crickets this AM pooped nicely the probe on his hammock says 99 the last I checked and did get up to 105 yesterday. yesterday one toe twitched for 1/8 second but it was a very small twitch and I only noticed it because I am looking for such signs.
His cool side I will check with a probe too but seems to be about 78/79. He likes to jump on his toy cactus quite a bit and we know now his body position for having a bowel movement :) (TMI I know but it was comical this morning)
We are still keeping his vet appointment anyway.

Okay I have another odd question then. I keep hearing people say they put rice in a sock and heat it up for taking the lizard to the vet. I have a neck wrap (unscented) that is full of rice that I heat to use when my pinched nerve acts up, would it be safe to use that wrapped in a towel for him?
Thanks! I want to keep him warm!!

The neck wrap will be fine - it is the same principle as the rice in a sock. As for the hot water bottle, I actually have a special teddy bear one for George which is a small waterbottle which is zipped insude the teddy bear, which has a nice fleecy soft top on. The water bottle fits quite snugly into the cat carrier to it doesn't move around

All I did was layer the stuff. And I used regular towels. Soo heated thing on bottom - folded towel on top of that, lizard on top of that, then another towel on top of that. Now my boys are 6 months old so you might need a smaller towel on top if your guy is smaller. They just kinda had their nose stuck out a bit for breathing but were all nice and toasty.

Thanks all! I will use a combo of the neck wrap and hand warmers. We would put him in a smaller container but the one I have he would definitely try to squeeze through the holes and I don't want him to get hurt. He can also jump up about 5-6 " as we discovered the other day. When he is bigger we will use our pet rabbit carrier but for tomorrow (on a messy morning) I will use the big tupperware container. Thanks for all the help.
He is doing great and we keep monitoring his basking site tempp-is 108 too high for a 9-11 week old lizard?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
