So my strategy which works good is to turn off the heat lamp, all the lights in the room except the UV bulb. I think she gets the message now because about 95% of the time she runs around the tank for about 3 minutes then goes into her normal sleeping area. I dont just wanna turn off all the lights at once because then she cant see where she's going and i wake up and she is just in the middle of the tank in a weird spot

How do you let your beardie know its bed time?

Also i know dogs are actually great at seeing in the dark. Does anybody know how good beardies are? from my observations, they dont look very very good.

I put each one to bed seperately by picking them up and turning out the light. I grab their blanket and lay them inside and stroke them for a few moments, then wrap them up and put them back in their viv. Each cage has a fleece blanket with a tail sticking out. Hmm, that reminds me, someone was missing tonight, she must have hid somewhere and dozed off early.

I turn off all the UVB lights and leave the basking ones on then i start with the older ones. I take them out and wrap them up in their baby blankie turn off the basking light and lay them in their vivs they are out in 5 mins. The girls 10 weeks i take them out one by one and pet them intill they pass out in their baby blankies. Takes them about 20 mins each then i put them in their vivs.

For Ruben I just turn the light off and he shuffles off into his hide and tucks his blanket around himself.
Very self sufficient!

Miso however is a baby and so ALWAYS thinks its playtime. She has her lights switched off for 10-15 minutes then she gets a snuggle on my chest whilst i remove all the salad she has strewn around her viv. Then i pop her ontop of her blankie and she burrows herself in nice and tight.

Voila!

LOL my 2 are both adults, all lights and heat off at 2200 and they just snuggle down wherever they are and kip, but if i do think their not comfortable, well having said that they more likely are comfortable but to me it dont look it but they do sleep in odd positions, well i will then move them to their blankies, especially if my Mischief is like hanging off his basking rock, he will either himself move himself more onto it then kip but if he dont then i move him on the floor on his blankie cos im worried ill hear a thud in the night and he would have fallen off. silly beardies!

I turn the uv lights off first. This seems to get them ready for bed. About a half hour later the heat lights go off.

Digger tells us when he wants to go to bed :D The hubby takes him out of his viv for his play time and he'll either run around or cuddle, then the hubby goes upstairs and Digger will spy his little memory pillow layout and want to go there so the hubby lets him climb up on it. He'll stay there until either 5PM or midnight depedning on when I get home from work, then he'll go in his cat carrier.

During the winter he would just go straight to his cat carrier, now that Spring is here, he's back to the under the cot mode.

We get Alf out for a little play time, then we either wrap her in a beardie burrito and snuggle her or my hubby lays her blankie on his chest/shoulder and she gets in her snuggle position against his neck and goes to sleep. If we happen not to be here at bedtime(weekend sometimes) she is waiting for us with this "Where have you been? Don't you know it's past my bedtime." look and we have to pick her up,wrap her in her blankie for a quick snuggle,it doesn't take long then.

They have to be put to sleep? They don't just fall asleep when they are tired? I don't have a BD, yet, but am seriously thinking of getting one. This would be my first one and so I'm doing as much research as I possibly can.

Thanks,

Viana

All of my lights are on a timer and they all s hut off at the same time(8:30pm) Within 5 minutes Elliott is sleeping. He cracks me up because wherever he happens to be when the lights turn off is where he tends to sleep

I had to laugh when I read the title of this thread.
How to tell your beardie its bed time...they usually tell me it's bedtime. :laughing6:
They are on a schedule and they are very familiar and accustom to it. (the creatures of habit that they are)
They each have their own way of asking for their bedtime snuggles.
However I think they know that when the kitchen light goes out it's close to bedtime.

Yea my last beardie slept in a very weird position. He always did it in the same spot too. He went to a corner and climbed up it so his belly was on the glass, so he was standing basically, and just fell asleep. I would see him do this and my back would start to hurt just by looking at him.

My three beardies tell -me- when it's bedtime, lol.

Dude, the oldest, always perches his head on his log and lays there waiting.
Girl curls up in her favorite corner.
Jumper does the same.

I can always tell when they're ready for bed, their eyes will get heavy and they just -look- sleepy. The moment the light goes out they immediately pass out, it's so cute. And it doesn't matter what's going on around them; whether it's noise or extra lights. Their internal clocks all seem to work at about the same pace. :) I love my beardies, they're so great.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
