How to take care of a beardie after endoscope

My beardie ate a washer on Monday. Well when I came home yesterday (Wednesday) he was not doing very well, so I decided that he needed to go to the vet. They did an x-ray and the washer was sitting right in his stomach. They told me they could do an endoscope on him. Which is just pulling the washer out through the mouth or the anus. I decided that I go through with the endoscope even though it was $500, but I would do anything for my little guy.

Any ways when they did do the endoscope they thought they could take the washer out of his mouth, but the washer was down in his colon by time they did the procedure, so they had to take it out of his anus. He has been in the ER clinic sense 4pm yesterday, and I will not be able to pick him up until 2:30pm when I get off of work.

I guess what I was wondering is if any one else has gone through the same thing with their beardie, and what you did to make your beardie more comfortable. Also is there any special care tips I should know about to make sure my beardie pulls through this just fine. He is only 2 years old, and I just spent a lot of money on him, so I would like him to live a long healthy life.

I guess I am going to bump this again. I am done with work at 2:30, then I have to pick up Harley, then I am having my parents over for dinner, so I will not be on BD.org again until tomorrow morning. I would like some advice (any advice) before I leave work. Thanks.

I am leaving work now, so I guess I will just figure it out myself. Thanks anyways.

Oh I'm so sorry no one answered your post, most everyone is at work themselves.
Unfortunately I have no idea, but I'm hoping someone will see this soon and can help you out.
Best of luck to you and your beardie!
I'm so glad you went ahead and got the washer removed!!

Hello,

I am sorry that he had to go through that! How nice of you to get him all taken care of.
I would allow him time to heal so don't feed him any feeders with hard exoskeleton such as crickets, roaches, superworms or mealworms. Preferably, stick with butterworms, silkworms, waxworms or phoenix worms for a couple of weeks or so. You can syringe him soft babyfoods such as squash babyfood, or peas babyfood, to make it easier on him to digest foods & pass them through in case he is sore from the procedure.
Let us know how he is doing!

I picked up Harley yesterday after work, and he is doing just fine. I talk to the vet when I picked him up, and she said there really is not anything special I need to do for him. She said just to keep an eye on him to make sure he does not have any other problems. Now it is all done and over with and we can put this all behind us, and Harley can live a happy healthy life with me.

I know that a lot of people did not know how to help me, but I was just freaked out myself and I wanted to know if any one else had been through the same thing. Thanks to all of you who did post just having your support helped a lot!!!!! :blob8: :blob5: :blob8:

Just to let everyone know Harley is doing just fine. He is eating his lettuce and his butter worms. He still seems a little stressed, but he is fine. Thanks again for everyone's support!!!! :D

Glad to hear he's doing well! These silly beardies just keep coming up with ways to stress us out, don't they?

Just to let everyone know Harley is finally 100% better. I came home yesterday from work and he was running around in his cage like a nut which is his normal self. I am just so glad he is not stressed anymore. I did not like to see my beardie upset like that knowing that I caused it. I guess I had to do what I had to do to make him feel better even if he was mad at me.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
