How much time out of the viv (lights and heat) is too much?

Now that I'm getting the lights/temps in his viv where they should be, I started thinking... how much time does he need to be in the viv to get the benefits from those lights/temps that he needs for his health? Between me and my five kids, there is a whole lot of family willing and wanting to give him attention! Right now we can take him outside to play and he gets some sun, but that is not going to last for long. Winter here is serious business! So any guidelines on required time in the viv?

If he gets jumpy or very dark, or inactive its time to go back in.
An hour out of the tank a day seems a little high, but it depends on your climate and your BD.
