How much should she be eating at 1 month old?

My daughters beardie, Kiyo is 1 month old yesterday :blob5: . I have been reading almost non stop :study: since about 3 weeks before she came home and most talk of young beardies eating 30+ crickets at a sitting sometimes. I am wondering at what age? Kiyo is 14cm/6.5" long and active and is now up to eating about 10 a day.

I tried her with a few of the really small crickets but she barely even looks at them, will eat them if they walk right up to her mouth but won't hunt them. I tried a few of the larger ones and she goes crazy for those ones. Chases them all over or just drops from her elevated perch onto them as soon as I put them in!

When everyone says no bigger then the space between their eyes is that carved in stone? These are probably about 15-20% bigger then that.

On a happy note Kiyo has developed quite a taste for Kale, I tear it into tiny pieces and she has a few pieces each of the last 3 days. How much should I allow her to eat of the greens? I know she requires a lot of protein and don't want to spoil her appetite.

For that young of a dragon, yes absolutely. kale should be fed 1-2 times a week as a snack, try the mustards, collards and any squash as staples.
I would also try silk worms and phoenix worms. Those are soft enough that they can be digested easily. I would suggest the smalls.
Hope this helps out!

Don't know if its a good thing or a bad thing but, my new little girl loves her salads! I give her a fresh serving (about a heaping tablespoon) of salad each morning. The salad this week is made up of equal parts of Kale, Bok Choy and Acorn Squash. I put it directly into her feeding dish then drop her crickets into the salad. She is nuts for her crickets and will usually polish off about 8-10 then stand in her bowl and munch a few mouthfulls of salad.

I am concerned as she is only eating between 10-15 crickets each day. Mind you they are med's not smalls. She won't even look at the smalls unless they walk right up to her and then she eats them. The med's she goes nuts for. Should I be holding back the salad until after she eats her fill of crickets?

Just keep on offering the insects then the salad. You are lucky, most of us have to waaaaaait for our babies to eat salads right off the mark.

Hope this helps out !

Thanks for the reply. I was initially putting the crickets into the salad to try and entice her but will wait until after she has eaten her fill of the crickets then give her the salad.

I am having trouble finding collard or mustard greens in my area. Wonder, do they ever go by other names?

one thing you can do if she'll only eat the med crickets is to pull their jumping legs off before feeding to her. This will reduce the chance of her getting impacted, which is the biggest reason you should stick to the "between the eyes" sizing guideline. Not only will it aid in digestion, but she'll be able to catch them easier. My BD is about 9 1/2 inches long and is 11 weeks old so I order 1/2" crickets online. Sometimes a larger full grown cricket will sneek into the shipment. I'll just pull it's legs off and feed it to him. He would eat it WITH legs no problem, but better safe than sorry!

As far as salads go, mine had eaten greens, squash, etc..etc since I brought him home at 7 weeks old (8" long). He's grown 1.5" in 4 weeks!

I also was under the impression that any time they deciede to eat the greens is a good thing!!

What would happen if you got a young one and he decieded that all he wanted was the greens what would be the suggestion on that case! :?: You know you always have that one in a million!!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
