How much sand can cause damage?

I have a 7 or so month old beardie and just two weeks ago I got him that cursed vita-sand (calcium sand) that I narrowly avoided getting him an impaction with. I was able to take him to the vet and they appoved him to come back home after getting him to poop and giving him metronidazole (for giardia). It took him an entire week to poop after that vet visit (from Friday to the next Friday). As I’m typing his he has finally pooped after about 2 days but I’m still left with one question. Could there still be sand left in his intestine or do you think if he got it cleared out soon enough he will be able to pass it over time? I’ve been giving him summer (yellow) squash and occasional soaks in hopes of getting things moving as well any advice appreciated. Btw his poops are massive and well formed but it concerns me that he waits until he’s completely full.

Temps: 90-101
Diet: crickets, mealworms, veggies
Lighting: heating globe is not the best but gets the temps up and a reptisun 5.0 which I’m going to replace when winter rolls around. I also take him outside to make up for slightly poor lighting.

One of my beardies will do that, and go up to about 3-5 days or more without pooping and is still fine. She's also much older then your beardie though (3 1/2 years).

Diet: crickets, mealworms I Would highly advice against mealworms since they have a shell very high in chitin which can be hard for beardies to digest., veggies What type of veggies?

I also take him outside to make up for slightly poor lighting. That's good. Sunlight is the best lighting for beardies so It's good if they can have some nice sun time.

IMO Any sand would be harmful but if you remove it early enough normally you won't have a problem typically, The best way is to not use sand at all. This has some reasons why not to use sand here: viewtopic.php?f=34&t=243890&hilit=sand#p1857889

Yeah he is on newspaper now for substrate. One thing that concerns me that you mentioned is if they removed the sand or not because they didn’t mention anything about it being removed I just assumed he would poop all of it out eventually. I just got him a 10.0 uvb coil and he’s been getting a veggie mix of kale, collards, Swiss chard and lettuce and such.

Pains me to say they didn’t.

Pains me to say they didn’t. The reptile specialist that was there said it can take a while for impaction to actually happen with sand and that it wasn’t the problem with him, but the problem was that he had giardia. Before I took him to the vet over this he was secluding under his rock and not eating or pooping. Now he’s eating and pooping in kind of far apart intervals.

Like I said earlier …. you dodged a bullet …. Just keep and eye on how often he's pooing, it can take up to 2 weeks to be sure.
