How long did it take for your Beardie to get used to you?

I'm just wondering how long it took you lot because I've had Vegeta for about a month and he's still quite eager to not go anywhere near me. Although when someone he'd never met before came round yesterday he just walked right up onto their leg, but when I try and hold Vegeta on my leg he'll run back into his tank or wriggle away. I want him to like me!

I've given him a bath a couple of times, he doesn't seem to like it. He just sits there and doesn't really move about, and last time I bathed him he climbed up my arm to get out

When he begins to get sleepy at night...put him on your chest and cover him with a small blanket that is just for him with your hand on him and blanket over your hand (keeps him warmer that way :)). If his face is covered he may just close his eyes and go to sleep...

Just keep doing that each night and he will come around. Also, can you give him a gently pet when you go to his viv? Just a quick one with a gentle voice?

Have you tried to hand feed him yet? How old is he?

I have read that it does take time but others will come and give you more advice :D
Oh, and you should give him baths anyway...and one plus; if he crawled up your arm to get away then that is one way to have him come to you as well :)

Thanks for the reply Sherri, I'll try and give him a cuddle how you suggested soon and let you know how it goes. If I put my hand in the viv he won't run away anymore but If I stroke him he normally does move away after a few seconds of stroking. I do hand feed him sometimes, pieces of veg, if i hold it out infront of him he normally does take it from my fingers. He's about 6 months old. Anymore advice from anyone would be helpful! Thanks Sherri

My Sizzle was the same way as you described but she would come after me to bite. By using the blanket method as described to you at night time it has really worked for me. I also pick her up in her blanket in the morning to warm her up for the day. I also place a used Tshirt in the tank. BUT even now, if I try to pick her up while she is on the floor of the tank she runs and occasionally tries to bite. But I can pick her up with no problem if she is up on her log. I normally don't even try to pick her up if she is on the floor of the tank. Maybe one day I will be able to.
Just a couple of ideas.

Oh yeah, she is 3 mos old today and I have had her since she was 2 1/2 weeks old. So it take some time.
When i give her a bath she just sits there to but after about 10 minutes and me adding more hot water she will start to swim around.

Thanks Valerie. I tried the blanket idea, well at the moment he's got his own little tea towel but I think i'll buy him a proper blanket. He was getting tired and was going to go to bed soon so I got him out and put him in the tea towel and put him on my tummy and he went to sleep after about 5 minutes and now he's just asleep on me and it feels so nice for him to not be running off and away from me! Thanks for your suggestions guys it's obviously helped and I'm going to do this every night now. He looks so cute :)

Goodness ours was in our hands sleeping and chillin in no time..like first day. I think it's important to handle your beardie at the store for awhile to discern their personalities.

Wow you're lucky then, my Vegeta was very nervous of us for the first week. And as for 4 years eeek that's quite a while! haha hopefully if i keep doing this everynight he will grow to love me ^_^
Just a quick question to any of you guys, he's asleep in the tea towel and I think it's time to put him to bed in his Viv now, is it ok to leave him wrapped up in the tea towel and leave it in with him to sleep in? Or should I not? Thanks for all your help everyone

No it was weird girl..dude at pet store handed him to me and I was like "Dude he's cool" and he stared at me like "Cool" and did not try to move. Guy at pet store asked me to cover him up with my hand but I knew he wouldn't run. And he didn't never has. Put him outside totally different story. Runs all over the place. But in the house he's king and has been since babyhood. Sits on my shoulder, sleeps in my hand, lets me feed him by hand. He's the king and he knows it..spoiled rotten. Tea towel. Hmm. I'd say not but I'm not sure.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
