It depends on the age. Hatchlings should be fed 3x per day. It one feeding, they can eat up to 100 crix.

Juvies get one feeding per day. (Starting to eat more salads)

Adults get 30-50 crix per week. (Eating mostly salads)

Mine's an adult, so he gets salads everyday and feeders (usually roaches, sometimes crix) every other day or so. Some people choose to feed less feeders every day...

My beardie wont touch crickets anymore, so I was nervous on what to do. I was informed to try roaches and I ordered yesterday 100 dubia. Hopefully she will eat them, if not, im SOL lol!

How old is your beardie? Besides crickets and roaches, have you tried anything else? Is she eating salads?

I feed her as much as she will be able to hold. in read :study: beardies dont over eat. she usually eats all the 12 crickets and is satisfied. i found that if she wants more she will give me this special face. then i feed her 3 more. if she gives me the look again then 2 more, again 1 more, again 1 more till she seems satisfied. i read :study: that the leftover crickets that she doesnt eat might eat at her dead skin in the night. i read :study: that they are really sound sleepers (and boy, a fire truck in my room couldnt wake her up!!! ) so they wouldnt know the crickets were on them.

but this is what i :study: . i am not sure if that is all hard fact. please tell me if something is wrong

What you read was correct. Definately never leave crix in with your baby for any amount of time. They are nasty little biting buggers.

Hey Holly-
Everything you read sounds great. My Lilly, who is about 2 weeks older than Sunshine usually gets fed twice a day. There are some days when I honestly cannot get a second feeding in, but I try to every day. Often she only wants 10 or so crickets in the morning, but will eat another 10-20 at night. I really don't know when to switch them off two feedings a day, but I want Lilly to eat at least 20 crix because I've heard people say 20-30 is a good number. Have you measured to see if she's grown since you got her? Lilly has grown 1/2" in less than 2 weeks; if she isn't growing much, she may not be getting enough protein. Oh and we have one beardie who is a very deep sleeper, but Lilly wakes up for everything. I don't leave crix in her viv, I get them out as soon as Lilly's done eating.
Just some thoughts-
Sara

Yep, crix can nibble on beardies in the night.

Hatchling/juvie beardies can't overeat. They're like human kids; they burn so many calories so easily. It's once they're adults that they can overeat and become obese. While a nice little buddah belly is good, obesity is not a good thing for beardies and will greatly reduce their lifespan.

Hello herpfreak. My beardie is just about 10 weeks. She loves Mealworms (which im now staying away from), phoenix worms and butterworms. It seems that she is trying the salad out, but not a big fan. I heard it will take time for them to start liking it though.

Hi. Good call staying away from mealies. I can, from personal experiance, claim that they do cause impaction. (But that's another story.) PWs are good feeders; high in calcium but not in fat. For a beardie as young as yours, butters are also fine. They do have some fat content, but also contain lots of calcium, and a young beardie will easily burn the fat they don't need.

It varies from beardie to beardie, but 10 weeks is often the "transition" stage from eating mostly protein to eating mostly greens.

I'd say keep offering greens and protein. If you think your beardie is losing weight or is sick, a vet trip (or a fecal test) can never hurt. Parasites (another area I have personal experiance with  ) such as coccidia will cause loss of appetite.

Good luck!

Did you maybe mean 10 months? Beardies are supposed to eat mostly protein for up to 12-18 months.

I'm lucky with a cricket farm one day away with ground shipping. If I order 5000, I get free shipping and it cost me $65. So I order 5000 every 2 to 3 weeks and get them smaller. I have 2 dubia colonies and feed the crickets the same chow I make for the roaches and they grow quickly. My insects eat more than my dog! My problem is hand feeding the dragons takes me an hour twice a day. I have babies, juvies, sub adults and adults. Seems like every few months I get a hankerin for new dragons... No more room now, my daughter wasn't helping so I had to rehome a sweet girl. I'm thinking about trying to raise crickets or something but can't do much that will take much more of my time or space.

The best part is when they get older and don't eat as much. Seems there is a few month window where they eat tons and tons while they are growing like crazy. Luckily it does slow down and become easier and cheaper. Thats when you decide on getting another dragon and start the cycle over again! Just warning you! Cheryl

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
