im having trouble with my tempurature and lighting. i want to use a 150 watt bulb but it goes past the cover and makes it unable to just sit on top of the cage also it started melting the plasic on my cage. ive switched to a lower bulb which doesnt do eather but my little guy is way less active and is barly eating. so i was wandering how you clip ur lights to the tank? because i think if i can clip it and use the 150 watt he would get better

I'm thinking that if the bulb is extending past the cover, then perhaps the fixture is probably not rated for that size/that high of a wattage of bulb.

Are you using a digital thermometer? I'm wondering if you truly need that high of a wattage bulb.

If you do, then you're probably going to have to buy a larger fixture to accomodate that large/strong of a bulb.

Clipping it above the enclosure would temporarily solve your problem, yes - but I'm thinking that if the fixture isn't large enough to hold the bulb properly, it might not even be rated for that high of a wattage bulb, and then you're dealing with a possible fire hazard. Check the inside of the fixture hood, it should be printed on the inside as to what kind of bulbs it can handle.

I totally understand - I'm so overly-hyper about bulbs and fixtures and ratings and everything. Seriously, if it isn't already complicated ENOUGH trying to get the temps right, then you have to worry about fixtures and ratings and burning the house down! LOL

Good luck!

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
