How do other people react to your beardie?

I have posted this before, but figured I would share again.
This is my 80 some year old Great Aunt Lake. She made my mom take the picture (it was digital) and take her and have it printed out somewhere, so that she could show everybody. And I do mean everybody! :wink: :lol:
She loves my beardies, and ask more questions than kids do!

Firstly i love this thread! lol

I live in northern ireland and until recently didn't know anyone who had a beardie. I am allergic to fur but love all animals, so i did research on how to take care of a bd, thanks to this site i got rexie from a pet shop in dec 08 she was about a year old. Six months later i got fred from a family who didn't have a clue how to take care of him, but with a lot of love hes getting better then last saturday i adopted baby, which is a temp name, baby has 3 fingers missing and is very small for a 7 month old.

I absoultly love my dragons they make me sooo happy. Thankfully i live with my fiance who at first wasn't sure but now likes them, my mum totally FREAKS out if she sees them and she thinks they look like frogs and is scared of them. My 16 year old sis is facsinated by them.

When i took rexie out last year, i was surprised that ppl were scared of her! When i was asked what she was i actually got asked does she fly and does she breath fire! Seriously! :lol:

I took fred and rexie to the scouts bbq last summer and the kids just loved them, and when i let them hold fred and rexie under strict supervison from me, it was the talk of the evening. All the partents weren't a mused as now there kids wanted a beardie! hehe

I was recently meeting our local priest to talk about our wedding and took rexie with me, he was scared to touch her but before i left he did, my fiance was SOOOOO EMBARASSED, cos rexie wanted to have a run around! Hes not sure about me wanting to take them with me during the summer when we do messages on a saturday, he thinks ppl will not like it, but i donot care!

I love the fire breathing and wings thing I get sometimes,but my favorite was this:
We took Alf to a car show (cruise in) last summer and as soon as I got her out,this lady comes over with a young boy( not sure if he was her son.......)Asks if she can hold Alf that she used to have one,I watched closely and let her hold Alf,she is telling this boy,I used to have one of these,they eat some bugs,greens(Here I am thinking oh wow,she seems to know what she's talking about) then she points to Alf's ears and says,"And these little holes here are it's lungs that's how it breathes." :shock: I thought oh boy here we go. I gently corrected her "Ma'am,that's her ears",she looked at me and said "I don't know where you got your information,but those are it's lungs,my son owns a pet store and knows all about them." She handed Alf back to me and I showed her where Alf's nostrils were and pointed out the she breathed through her mouth and nostrils but she walked away telling the boy that I didn't know what I was talking about,those were it's lungs.I hate to think what her son told people who bought a beardy from him.

I just got two really good reactions today, brought him to my Dads work again and two people wanted to hold him (and ask about him!) I am excited! :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

but they only said i could do that if i was going to draw them, which i can do LOL.
Its times like these which makes me want to live in america so its warm! and not cold!

I don't know if I would actually want to talk to the guy who has the pet store I might want to hit him with something.LOLOLOLOLOL I am not a violent person,but people who won't see reason just irritate me.
As for living in America where it's warm,not so much here right now. It's only in the 40's where I live and about 5* colder where I live surrounded by hills and trees. Snow has melted in town,but I am only beginning to thaw here where there is still about 3 inches of snow in parts of my yard that don't get much sunshine(we have to pipe in sunshine is a big joke in my yard where we only get about 2 hours of sunshine in the winter,it shines on the hills though)Weather man is calling for snow again in the next 2 or 3 days.

Smid and I have had some pretty good reactions from people - most of them are great. The kids always love him. One day last summer when we went for a walk to get ice cream he decided that my head would be a great place to see things. A lady walked by us and did a total double take and burst out laughing. I also took him to work one day (I use to work in the oil field with mainly older men), a bunch of the guys thought he was neat - some thought he was fake and one or two of these big tough guys were scared of a 400g lizard!! The biggest surprise - the secretary loved him!! The only thing that matters is my boyfriend and I both love him.

my sisters chiropracter absolutly loves my beardies anytime i drop my sister off she comes running out side to hold them. the funniest reaction iv gotten was a grandma and her grand daughter were getting crickets and i walked by with spyro on my arm and the grandma screamed bloody murder and yelled i hate these critters why am i even here and ran away leaving her grand daughter and i staring after her

This beardie thing started for us 2 years ago when my daughter went on a trip to the local aquarium with her girl scout troop. It was like 8 girls and they got a behind the scenes tour of the aquarium and they got to interact with the animals. They took out 2 beardies...one couldn't be held because she was gravid but the male was all theres to play with. Most of the girls thought the beardie was gross and they were terrified to hold it. Not my kids (both girls and at the time 7 & 6). They wanted to hold the beardie and they thought it was cool. For 2 years my oldest daughter pestered us about having a beardie. I bought her a book so she could read about what you needed to do to take care of it. Honestly, I thought it was a fad that would pass with time. I never immagined that I would actually be an owner of one 2 years later. I remember the night before we got Samson I was having a panic attack (no one told me until the very end that I would have to feed it live crickets and worms). I thought I would not be able to handle having a lizard. First day we got him I fell in love with him. Now my dad says I love the lizard more than the kids. I am always fussing over Samson...I spoil him so much.

I asked my daughter the other day what her friends thought of Samson and she told me they all think she is crazy and that he is gross. My daughter says that poor Samson is misunderstood (she really meant all beardies). I fear that my poor daughter will not have many friends come over out of fear of the lizard but I don't think she careshe adores her Samson. As for me, all my friends ask me how I can allow my daughter to have "that lizard" as a pet. Everyone says they would never allow their kids to have one. I have not had one positive comment yet! One day I am going to take him to my kids school just to mess with everyone because they all suck! As for my parents....my dad lives with us and he has warmed up to Samson. He even held him once but I took samson from him because he was trying to squeeze the life out of him (he doesn't know how to hold him properly yet). As for my mom she says yuck everytime she sees him out of her cage. My daughter loves to put him right in her face to freak her out. I still don't understand where my kids got their love for reptiles. We went to the reptile pet shop today to buy crix and my kids never want to leave that place. They have seen all the reptiles there 100 times but when we go they have to see them again and we end up staying there for an hour.

PS we got a guinea pig the same day as Samson and I get the same comments because she's a rodent. Everyone thinks I am crazy to have a rodent living in my house! I love them both Now my daughter is saving up money to get another beardie and the other day she said she wanted a chameloeon. I know she hasn't asked for a snake yet because she is afraid the guinea pig will go missing one day...if not she would ask for a snake too!

hmmm.... I have found children deffinetly are less afriad to get close and personal with these guys. I have had kids I babysit want to hold to my boy.
