How do I shadow a reptile vet?

I don't know where to post this, so maybe a mod can move it. I've always known I wanted to be a vet when I grew up but after getting Pippin I've decided I want to specalize in reptiles and exotics. I've heard in order to even be considered for vet school you must have so many hours of shadowing a vet. How do I convince Pippin's vet to let me shadow him? I'm 23 but still in high school (homeschooled) because I got really sick and had to take a break from school for a while to recover. I also was held back a few times because of various learning disabilites and trying to catch up becuase the public school didn't actualy teach me and was basicay a glorfied baby sitting service. How do I convince any vet to let me shadow them? Please give me examples of exact wording and such.
