How do I know if the UV light is on?

I just got my first Beardie ever, so I'm a bit worried about my lack of knowledge. I just set up the tank, I have a light, UV light and a heat lamp. The heat lamp doesn't actually have a bulb in it yet, they didn't tell me that in the store so now I need to get a bulb for it. What bulb should I get? Also I plugged in the UV lamp and it looks exactly the same as when it's off. How do I know if it's on?

Okay, everyone ignore that. I just called the shop again and it turns out that while I was carrying what I needed to the car I accidently took an extra light, which is why I was confused. But I now have the heat lamp and the UV light set up, and have removed the extra one (which I now need to take back to the store haha)

the uv bulb should be showing noticeable visible light when it's on.
