How can I decrease the Humidity?

I know when it comes to bearded dragons too much humidity can be a bad thing. Right now my tank is at about 80% humidity. The lights haven't turned on yet this morning but I didn't think that would help out my humidity problem. We live in an old (100+ year) house with no central AC, but we do have a window AC in the same room as the dragon tank. All the windows downstairs are closed and attempting to keep everything cool and not humid, but it's not working well. What can I do to kill the humidity in there?

Hello,

That is pretty high humidity. You can try getting a dehumidifier to see if that helps out. Or some have tried using a ceramic heat emitter also, for drying the air out also.
Is the entire house that humid too?

Unfortunately, yes it was that humid. Midwest summers kinda suck. I have a CHE but was afraid to turn it on since everything was already too hot. I'll try next time though, thanks!

Hi,

I had/have the same problem until I understood how percentage of humidity is measured. As far as I understand the air can contain a certain amount of water in it. The colder the air is less water it can retain. So when the air of one temperature with the same amount of water in it gets colder the percentage will rise up to 100% when it will condensate and rain.
No let's see the other way around. You measured your humidity of 80% when the air in the tank was cold (before light switched on). Later when the tank got heated up by the basking and UVB light you had the same amount of water in the air BUT! your air was much hotter, which means that the percentage of humidity dropped significantly. I would say around 52-58%.

I hope you understand what I mean and sorry, but English is not my first language.
