Ok I made a homemade incubator.. I went to the local aquarium shop and got a cooler, a large reptile heat pad, thermometer, and humidity gauge, digital thermometer with probe.... I put the heat pad in the cooler to see if it heats it right and it heats fine... What steps can I take to make sure it holds up the correct heat without going to hi or low.. And last to actually check if it is in proper 100% flawless for the eggs...

well with the one that i made i used a thermostat to control the temps and just went by the eggs as to how much humidity i need.

But of course the thermostats cost like $100 but they do the job good.

I'm testing it for the first time.. Just started it about 15 minutes ago.... I seen incubators made with a aquarium heater if this mat doesn't work i will try the aquarium heater..As of right now I have a regular thermometer, a reptile thermometer gauge, a digital thermometer and a humidity gauge... All the thermometers are showing 78 degrees and the humidity gauge is showing 85.... in order to test this should I have a container of perlite made or i can test without.. We'll see what it is in the morning...

My hubby tried a two different homemade incubators and thank god nothing was in them. The first one fluctuated so much he couldn't keep it steady and the second one melted overnight. Then we bought some other kind of incubator from TSC and it malfunctioned so we returned that. Then I was finally able to talk him into the hovabator we have now.

Although, I have seen homemade ones work for others, it just wasn't meant to be for us.

We bought 3 Hovabators for I believe $25-$35 each. Best investment we've made. Very consistent and worth every penny.

I have tried the 10 gallon incubator and it is some what hard to keep the temps right and the humidity up. I have sucessfully hatched eggs but it took a long time to get it right and my temps were still low. Well maybe you can get it to work.

The incubator that i have right now is a cooler with heat tape on the bottom and then large containers of water on top of the heat tape. Then the containers with the eggs get shoved in the middle of the cooler. And to keep air flow going there is two computer fans on each side of the cooler blowing towards the middle of the cooler.

Well I ran it last night and at 6:30 this morning and the temp was 93 and the humidity was 90.. So now I added more ventilation, less water and will see what it does now.... I understand everyone's love the the Hova Bator but I don't have time waiting 3+ weeks to get it here... And don't have the extra 50$ for just shipping alone... I don't want failure... That is why I am doing all these test...

Hi, I have tried the aquarium incubator but couldn't get temps and humidity stable enough. What I do is use a mini fridge(can usually find one very cheap or free on craigslist) a piece of heat tape and a good therrmostat and a small fan and your good to go. I built my small fridge for like $130 and $100 of it was for the thermostate(spyder robotics). You can get good thermostate cheaper I just prefer spyder robotics as they are excellent product. I do have a hova bator just in case but it can only hold a couple of clutches, but have never had a problem with it. I have just upgraded this year to a single door coke fridge for my dragon and ball eggs, which I luv it has so much room lol :O)

This is the setup I have... I have an aquarium cooler where they transport fish in.. I put a large reptile heat pad on the bottom of it covered with a felt pad, two stainless steal bread baking pans half full of water on top of heating pad, A alluminum vented plate that is on top of that then the egg bowls , a regular glass thermometer, a reptile thermometer gauge, humidity gauge, wireless digital thermometer with probe.. two vent holes one in front and back... I computer fan, if i out it for exhaust it keeps it from getting high humidity but not sure where the best place to put it for air circulation.. And need to regulate the temp... any suggestions...

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
