Oh boy, sounds really complicated. You've got your hands full with this one! I'm sure the blood sugar is delaying Fuzzy's eye healing. Diabetes does that to humans, why not dragons, right? My father in-law was a diabetic. The slightest bruise or cut would take forever to go away. Poor Fuzzy! Well, at least you know, it's not affecting his libido! Boys will be boys... I hope Peekaboo gets a good report and you won't need to start with the meds, especially where you would be venturing into unchartered territory! Yikes! Kind of scary! Love the picture of the kids hunting for worms! Keep us posted. Hoping for the best at the doctor!

Hello,

Let us know how the new vet visit goes!
That is correct on the seminal or sperm plugs, it is one from each hemepenis. :D
You can gently tweeze out the femoral pore build up of wax, if you want to, after you soak him. They usually come right out.
I would definitely separate to see if you can lower the stress to get lower blood sugar. Are they eating well right now?
I hope he doesn't have an abscess in his eye, but if it is not healing up, then you should get it looked at.
How much sugar is in the iguana pellets?

We all saw Dr Surrency last week.

Peekaboos blood sugar was so high it went off the scale (which ends at 600). I started her on .5cc Glipizide today at 1:pm. Every 24-48 hours. She seems fairly alert. Slightly puffy body now a 6:15....I gave her a lot of food though. She's eating A&D mixed with Pretty Pets and collards. Dr. Surrency said to lightly boil the collard greens, otherwise the calcium does not fully release or something. She is still on .4cc of Cephelexin, just as a precaution against infection with being such a high risk with the high blood sugar levels. I took her outside and she began eating grass on her own. Started her on Raglan, huge difference with the gasping behavior. Dr. surrency noted that it seems to be that something inside her hurts. If I feed her more than 3ccs of food she writhes like they do before they vomit. :puke: Raglan settles the digestive tract.

Fuzzy's sugar was better, 300 I think? He has gained weight. He's dehydrated right now. He switched from Baytril to Cephelexin. As soon as he switched his eye puffed out and he was rubbing it on everything. We added the Baytril this afternoon. It's less puffy than it was this morning. Fuzzy has taken to following me around. He sits on my foot and wants to be picked up. He is constantly demanding attention. I'll give it to him until he starts eating on his own again. He doesn't even eat the wax worm candy I give them. He's still on Raglan. His color is much better since being on the Cephilexin. He got really upset at being separated from his girls, so they are back together. So far not even a head bob, let alone any lizard lovin'.

Hutch's head tilt is gradually getting better. Still on the Chloramphenicol .25cc. Hutch really likes attention. If I talk to her she will jump at me like a dog out of exitement. If I really get her going she even craps herself. I praise her for it, cuz if she poops in front of me, I can tell who's it is, and can clean it up before any poop painting begins. She's perkier for sure now. She still has one waxworm in the dish that she refuses to eat, but just sits there all day and stares at. It's her pet worm.... :headbang:

Wow...you've really got your hands full. I don't know what a normal sugar level in a dragon is but if one of yours is 300 and the other is 600, that's an insane difference! I hope the new med works to bring it down. How long does Peekaboo have to be on the Glip before she goes back for a re-check? You've got quite a cast of characters on the DragonBus! :laughing6:

Fuzzy's eye started to swell again so he's back on the cephelexin. I caught him rubbing his eye on his fake log today. It's all swollen from it. He is much perkier now though...he was using his stumpy tail as a pogo stick and bouncing on the sides of the aquarium.....I think he has lizard ADHD.

Peekaboo seems a teeny bit better on the Glipizide. They are all getting A&D prescription food, that might be helping, along with the Raglan. Oregon is having it's 3rd wettest June on record....but temps are warmer and days are longer and that's prime time for dragons!!!! Yay Summer!!!!!! :!: :blob8: :!: :!: :!: :blob8:

Peekaboos blood sugar is 300 this week, down from 650!!!!!! Seems like the Glipizide is working. I am also giving her prickly pear cactus, taking her outside nearly every day and increased her greens!!!!..She still has weak front legs, but she is no longer stumbling around and is hardly gaping in pain...unless she sees me look at her, but thats just her telling me she's hurting, not gaping in agony in spite of who is watching. I am so stoked!!!!!

Fuzzy's blood sugar is almost normal, his calcium phosphate ratio showed he needed more greens so that's what I've been doing....and hydrating them constantly.

I recommend Glipizide to anyone else with dragons with high blood sugar, the results are amazing!!!!! We are hopeful for a full recovery...We still have a long way to go!!!! :bikerwave:

Hi,
Fuzzys eye still swells when I take him off baytril. His chin lump has gotten considerably bigger over the last few days. Vet does not think its an abscess. His blood work does not show anything serious. Not sure whats going on there.

Awww, poor Fuzzy. :( I hope that lump doesn't turn out to be anything serious. I had another "thought". Don't Iguana's eat considerably more fruit than beardies? Could the pellets have too much sugar for a dragon's system? Just wondering. I hope everyone is getting better for you!

I agree 100 % with Spike's a girl ! That pellet food's main ingredient is corn, and that's very high sugar ! You might be best off sticking with all leafy greens for now, along with their bugs of choice 2-3 times a week. I only skimmed this, so sorry if I repeated something already suggested.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
