Hiding in the day....

I've caught Phoenix in her hiding cave a couple times the past 2 days during the daytime. Her hide is in her basking side because she likes to sleep under the warm cave after the lights have gone out. She has some hides on her cool side but rarely ever uses them. I don't think it is because she is sick. She just finished a shed and I think hiding might have made her colors even brighter, because she's also been a brilliant red color lately. She is active, eating well. All looks good, except she's been going into her hide for a little while during the day and then coming back out on her own, and also I've seen her gaping under her basking lamp lately. She's far enough away from it, and the temps are pretty good...nothing out of the ordinary...any thoughts from anyone that I might not be thinking of, or is she just showing me her personality?

She may be wanting away from the basking light or UVB for a little while,as far as I know this is ok unless she is hiding all the time.Hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along shortly with some help.Sometimes beardies will also take a nap.

hey,

my beardie george always does that, basks for a bit then takes off into his hide...to my knowledge its normal behaviour, it would be the same as the dragon going into the shade on a hot day to escape the sun. if its only for a little while, i wouldn't be too worried. if he is hiding all the time, that is course for concern i would think

As long as he is eating, basking and pooing then its nothing to worry about.

They don't need to have uv all day long. As long as she is getting enough heat and uv after eating so she isn't going to sleep with undigested food at night I wouldn't worry. It is also fall now and in nature their days are getting shorter. If she is old enough she may be thinking about bruminating. It is also normal for them to just slow down during this time of year and be less active even if they don't bruminate.
