Hello!
I’ve been concerned about my 1 year old bearded dragon over the last few days. He has been hiding more frequently than he used to. I started noticing the behavior late last month up through now. At first, I didn’t think anything of it, knowing that as an adult, bearded dragons tend to eat less than they did as juveniles. He gets crickets twice a week (about 15-20 each feeding period). I know he still deficates, but not as frequently anymore. I’ve noticed that he eats his veggies but not so much the lettuce. Along with it. I’ve lowered his reptile calcium to 2-3 times a week, so I worry that it could be a calcium deficiency. Because of this change, I assumed it was possibly too hot for his basking area, so I lowered the basking temperature to see if it would work. If it continues, I’m worried that I will have to take him to the vet. I do have enough funds saved for a check-up so I’m more than willing to take him if I have to.
(This is an older photo, his cage is clean I promise haha. He’s a poser)

How old is the uvb? Are you using a T 5 or T 8? Basking temps need to be 95-100 taken w/ a digital probe thermometer- surface temps-- if they are too cool they can send him into a brumation type of behavior- please no more lettuce- it gives no nutritional value and will make their poop real watery - what is the poop look like? Is it real stinky ? Is he basking at all?

It’s a T8 and about 2 months old. I can switch over to collard greens, I’ve given them to him before. Squish is the least picky eater I’ve ever met. His poop looks wet, but it’s a good color with good looking urate and is not runny. It is not really stinky. He is basking at the moment and ate some of his breakfast already.

Ok sounds good - the T 8 needs to be inside the tank directly above the basking decor 6-8 inches- T 8's are not strong enough to go thru screens- if anything needs adjusting please do so and then see how his behavior is- please keep us updated and then we can go from there

Thank you! He actually just went to the bathroom again and I boosted his basking temp some more, he’s running around and even got some out time today too.
