Hi, i got my dragon yesterday... Before i got him, i did a lot of research on different lizards... i already have a 3 and half foot ig. and i wanted something for my 55 gallon tank that was empty... i wanted it to be able to live in it even after it becomes an adult... they only get 20in long right? And i have read many places that you can keep two in a 55 gallon tank... so i fugured that he would have enough space to be by himself and have alot of extra room... is there any problem with that...? i feed him little crickets and collards... Hes about 5 and half to 6 inches long stl... Oh and his name is Spike... lol

im new at this (let me know if the picture doesnt work...)

Welcome, Lexie :D

Spike is certainly a cutie :love5:

Some beardies get a bit bigger than 20" but not by much so no worries.

40 gallon breeder tanks are typically recommended as the minimum size for a single beardie but I don't see anything wrong with using a 55 gallon other than it may be a bit narrow (the breeder tanks give more floor space).

Again, welcome! Everyone here is pretty friendly so if you have questions don't be afraid to ask, someone usually comes along fairly quickly to help you out.

Hi, welcome! Actually two beardies should NEVER stay together in the same tank. I know you weren't going to but just want to give you that important info. He's a cutie. Good luck!

I was using ground cherry walnut for the first two days ive had him.... today i used the cut tile from when we had our foors redone... there was only two pieces that fit.. and one had so room on each side so i reused the cherry walnut stuff and kinda used it to grout lol... so the worms and crickets couldnt get in the cracks or hide... there was also i spot at the right end that i had no tile for so i set two broken off pieces of stepping stone there and then put his fake tree/limbs thinge... there was jut glass under it so i decided to fill it in with the ground walnut stuff so in case he fell off itd be a some what soft landing and i also used a piece of drift wood that we had prevously bought from petco and used as a waterfal... well i found a strechy shoe lace like matiral and there was a hole drilled thru the wood and i tied to it and rolled it around the log and and propped it up against the tree like thinge... for a easy climb up........

Hello Lexie & Welcome to BD.org!

:blob8: Congratulations on the new baby! :blob8:

Your viv looks nice  ...but I have to tell you that walnut shell is really bad...if ingested it will tear up the little booger on the inside...also they can't pass it so can easily become impacted. :(

Again Welcome & Gratz! :D

thats why i took almost all of it out and replaced it with tile... but untill i can find a small substrate to fill the lines and the big end on the right i have to use it... can you recomend some thing? that is little, like sand, or something ground up, if there is anything like that, thats safe?

I'm afraid not. Sorry. It's just any loose substrate can clump together in your beardies belly. But I really think that tile looks great!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
