help with young beardie.

I have a beardie I bought from petsmart 2 weeks ago he doesnt each much or often and I think he lighting might have gotten disrupted over the weekend. He hasnt moved very much the last couple of days and he barely opens his eyes. I have tried feeding him crickets, Cale and Carrots I just went to the store and got strawberries meal worms and blue berries and collard greens, and he didnt want any of that. What do I do I feel like he is getting weaker although not changing in size. I had a friend turn on and off his light but she left the UVb light on all night and no basking light, could his lighting be disrupted and he just be cold and needs time to adjust or what? Please help me, thank you.

Ok gonna ask you the questions that need to be known

What brand of uvb light do you have?

What are the temps in the tank (air temps at hot end & cold end & temp of the basking spot)?

What size vivarium do you have?

What watt is your basking light?

What substrate are you using?

Sorry its a lot of questions & if you can post any pics of him this will help people to help you too.

Im sure it will be something simple (could just be relocation stress) & he wil come round soon

Hello,

Please answer Pete's questions regarding your tank setup, etc.
So, did they leave the UVB on all night long then? How many nights was that done? Had they left the basking light on all night as well?
If so, he is probably heat stressed as well as extremely tired from disrupted sleep & possibly dehydrated.
Please let us know how he is doing.

I have a 40 gallon tank
i have eco carpet
i use sun glo 75 watt basking light(not left on all night) just got another lamp and 60 watt basking that i have added to make it warmer
the uvb light is a repti glo 2.0 26 watt and left on only for one night
the tank on the cold side is just under 80 and the hot side is 100+ where he can get close the light


recently he was laying down and moved to the side of the rock and layed on his side looking very unfomfortable but looked like he was sleeping deeply when i moved him because he barely moved not really sure what to think

OK your temps sound good.

I would get rid of the repi glo light (they do more harm than good) and get a repi sun 10 (if your in the US) or an arcadia 12 (if your in europe)

Mine quite often sleeps in strange positions like standing on his back legs against the side of the viv so dont worry about that they wont sleep if they are uncomfy.

if you get the new light today you might find that it makes all the difference. They are more expensive but well worth it for the proper UVB levels.

Is he hydrated OK? Might be worth giving him a warm soak in some shallow water (about the same temp as you would put a baby in) just to get him some hydration.

Can you post a couple of pics of him cos that would be a massive help to people

Hello,

While the Reptiglo 2 light is basically harmless it will just add some brightness to the tank. It is not nearly strong enough to provide adequate UVB exposure & to allow proper D3 synthesis. As suggested, the Reptisun 10 tube bulb is the best light.
The Sun glo is a decent basking light so that is not a problem. What type of thermometer are you using, a stick on type, a digital probe or a temp gun?
