My beardie recently went over 24 hours without heat!!
He is ten years old, in a 55 gallon tank, he usually has a basking spot temp of 100-110, recently he hasnt been very active, but the buld in the basking lamp burnt out, and so did the reserve, so he has been ata temperature of about 75'-80'. He has slate tile and rock shelters, but its cold here in canada, and the rocks wouldnt gave been hot for very long. Anyways, hes been doing a sort of coughing noise and puffing up since i went out and got him a new bulb. I read this is a respiratory infesting due to the cold getting inside him? I really love the little guy, hes ten years old and weve been through so much, id just like to know what to do. The vet really isnt an option, and i really mean that, im past broke. I really want to know what i can do to help, and i dont mean to sound selfish, but i know ten years is old for a beardie and im unsure if he will last much longer.

Hi Sherbert....hopefully he will recover from his coughing, if he is getting sick, it must be due to his age and having a predisposition to becoming sick, because 24 hours at 75 - 80 should not have even begun to make him sick. Normally, a dragon would not have any problem whatsoever under those circumstances. Did you put him in a bath or anything during that time so that he became chilled after, or perhaps aspirated some water ? For now, just keep his temps. as you had them before, maybe 100 - 105 high and 80 on the cool end, and keep him at 80 at night. I truly hope this passes.

Thanks alot for the quick reply, I did not give him a bath or spray any water just because I figured that would make him chilled after. I went out today and bought a new lamp and a ceramic heat emitter, do you think i should use that at night? He is still "coughing" every 2-3 minutes, and had a fit of them for about 5 minutes straight. But hes basking on his rock and he ate quite a few pheonix worms, so I really don't know what to think ofthe whole thing.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
